Headmaster's Column
Knox is a school that focuses on the academic, physical, social and spiritual lives of young men through our Total Fitness educational model. The model is age-specific and accounts for the different and complex worlds of the Prep School boy and the young man preparing for university.
Our educational model is strongly aligned to our values, focussing on educating the boys about how to become a good man. This is one of the reasons I am so proud of Knox. I love our clarity of purpose. We know who we are; we know where we are going. Our primary purpose is to build “fine young men”- to assist young men to become the very best human being they are capable of becoming – a person of character who will shape a positive future for themselves and the wider community.
Team Leaders
With the arrival of Week 7 of Term 1, we now see the boys deep in their assessment period with multiple tasks due over the next 10 days. At school, there has been an increased focus on encouraging the boys to look at their time management strategies and to take advantage of the reduction in sport loads this week to get ahead. While walking around and catching up the boys, I have been very impressed with level of maturity and positive vibe amongst the group and how upbeat they are about the challenges ahead.
This week in Year Meeting, we celebrated women and their contribution to all walks of life, both inside and outside the Knox community. We were privileged to hear stories from Deputy Headmasters Mrs Yager and Mr O’Regan, as they spoke about inspirational women and the role they played in their lives. School Captain Dom Goddard spoke about the importance of speaking up when they see or hear harmful attitudes and behaviours towards women in our society and how to become a positive influence in our community. To conclude, Heath Turner, Tom Quigley and Luke Manuel spoke to the boys about women who have demonstrated courage, resilience and determination in forging their paths through the world of sport.
Student Administration Officer
What an extremely exciting week - we've had the final two rounds of Battle of the Bands, live music at the 2021 Bandstand Concert on Wednesday evening and the CAS Swim and Dive Championships yesterday. What a week it has been!
Students are reminded that there has been a change to the procedure for temperature checking. Boys, are no longer required to scan their student cards after walking through the Boarders' Walk. They should still walk through Boarders' Walk and have their temperature checked on arrival at school. They do not need to scan student card afterwards.
Sports News
Head of Knox Sports and Aquatic Academy
As we move straight into the winter program, we must recognise some of the incredible performances over the past summer from so many talented boys and teams.
Our First Water Polo team have been crowned CAS Champions for the second consecutive season with an unbeaten run against CAS schools – only to be denied the CAS/GPS shield following a narrow loss to Newington. The team will finish their season tonight with a huge match in the Knox pool against Scots.
Our First Basketballers also enjoyed another championship season - this time joint CAS Premiers with Trinity Grammar. Our team showed immense composure and skill on Friday night against Cranbrook to lift the Rev A.V Smith Shield for the ninth time overall and the third consecutive year.
Knox Wellbeing Centre
Normal Mental Ill-Health
It’s normal for adolescents to experience mental health challenges. Research tells us that approximately 30% of boys will be diagnosed with an anxiety disorder before the age of 18, and 14% will experience a period of depression (Reis et al., 2010). Over our lifetimes, it is estimated that 45% of all Australians will go through at least one period of mental ill-health. While not all of our students will experience a period of mental ill-health themselves, its highly likely that they have a friend or a family member who has.

We are so excited to be able to welcome parent volunteers back on campus to assist in the Tuckshops from the start of Term 2, 2021. The return of volunteers is subject to continued stabilisation of local and state health requirements regarding COVID-19.
We greatly appreciate our volunteers and their contributions to our School community.
