We can all be rightly proud in the ability and agility of our Year 8 boys have demonstrated, with the support, direction and encouragement of teachers, mentors, team Leaders and parents, in adapting to a markedly different world of learning. The challenge ahead is to hold, and I believe, deepen the quality of online learning throughout Term 2. Parental support, monitoring and the regulation of online learning is so important during this time. Bearing this in mind I strongly recommend all parents consider the many technology tips provided in this week’s newsletter by Craig Whalland, the Head of Knox IT.

I pray that the Easter period will give us all time to slow down, reflect on current circumstance and then approach Term 2 with a renewed sense of hope and purpose.

I returned to the School campus today to pick up some work materials. The Senior campus is certainly very quiet and profoundly different without the laughter and energy of the boys.

Much of the news surrounding COVID-19 has focused on the negative aspects of this pandemic. I thought it timely to focus on some of the things we are gaining. Through these trying times we are gaining an appreciation of the importance and quality that social interaction, family support, friendship, and even casual catch ups bring to our lives. We are all learning perseverance, patience and agility in the face of adversity.

We all know that the Knox experience involves much more than just what takes place in the classrooms. That is why a large number of students and staff are reaching out online with innovative challenges and novel ideas on how to keep socially connected, physically and emotionally healthy and spiritually strengthened.

As we move into the Easter Break, I encourage all to look for ways of bringing laughter, fun, love and hope into the family experience.

Congratulations to the CO2024 for their remarkable resilience and perseverance during this challenging term. In recent weeks I have missed my many discussions with boys, their laughs and the occasional 'high 5'.

Make the most of your holidays, boys, despite having to stay at home. Here are some things you could do: complete a painting, take on a Rubik’s cube, start a journal or blog, phone a friend, go for a walk, wash the dog.

Please remember the clocks go back by one hour on Sunday 5 April at 3am. This means an extra hour of much needed sleep for all of us.

Happy Easter and have a wonderful holiday break. Stay safe.

Thank you so much for your support of our transition to online learning over the past two weeks. It has been a steep learning curve for us all and the resilience of our amazing teachers, boys and parents in adapting to this new teaching and learning environment has been inspirational. The boys now have three weeks of holidays in which to recharge and to perhaps discover a new home hobby!  Teachers will be working next week to further upskill and refine online learning pedagogy and to plan for Term 2. There will be some modifications required to some of the assessment tasks scheduled for Term 2; please encourage your son to read Student café notifications carefully. Best wishes to you and your family for Easter.

Upcoming Assessment Tasks

Term 2 Week 1         Geography (deferred from Term 1) – due Friday May 1

Term 2 Week 2         Technology – due Friday May 8

Online access to the Stage 4 Study Skills Evening

As mentioned in last week’s newsletter, you are able to access online videos of the study skills evening until 13 April 2020. The videos outline tips and techniques from the study skills expert, Dr Prue Salter. There is also a section included with tips for managing remote home learning. Ideally it is best that you watch these videos together with your son.

Please take advantage of this valuable opportunity before access ends on 13 April.
