YEAR 12 WEEK 8 TERM 2 2020

Year 12 Week 8 Term 2 2020

Hero Image

The re-commencement of sport has certainly been welcomed by Year 12 this week. Training and physical activity has so many benefits to reduce stress and also adds a social element that has been missing in recent times. It is important that the boys attend all training sessions over the coming weeks – for many, this will be final chance to represent the black and blue. This week, Trent Muskens (OKG19) reminded his peers to take each opportunity that presents itself before the end of the year, as the focus will quickly turn to the HSC.

Mrs Yager spoke with the cohort this week and congratulated them on the resilience shown during the difficulties of 2020. She referenced a survey which identified that approximately 60% of students in NSW became disconnected from their learning as a result of COVID-19. Mrs Yager stressed how important it was to push through this and recent evidence is that the boys may have actually benefitted from the time away from school. Reports suggest that many are reaching out to their peers and students have also been able to engage in passion projects, which they can learn from and apply to their day-to-day learning. The boys responded to this positive message and it should provide them with the platform to really attack their studies over the next six months.

Some may experience heightened anxiety during the next few months so please continue to reach out if there is anything that the School can do to support your son. We are truly lucky to have such a caring environment and the Total Fitness model is to support each boy in every component of their school lives.

Have a great weekend and remember that the days are getting longer following the solstice on Sunday.

If your son has completed the Year 12 Study Periods permission letter, please remind him that Fridays are exempt from the late arrival policy. You can click here to review the policy.

Please ensure your son has spoken with Mrs Blackburn (Uniform Shop Manger) to confirm if he is entitled to Colors. Mrs Blackburn will be in the Seniors' Hall on Tuesday and Thursday next week. All Blazers need to be left on the rack in the Seniors' Hall with the completed Colors Submission form placed in the front top left hand pocket by Friday 26 June (last day of this term) before 4pm.

We are hoping to get a collection of footage and photos of all the boys' time at Knox. This will be a video to commemorate as well as highlight our achievements, friendships and events. To try and equally represent everything and everyone in our year, any potential videos or footage you have (as parents or boys) to share would be appreciated and help improve the quality of the video. These photos and videos can range from anything such as Rugby highlights, funny videos out of school or even photos and videos from the Knox Prep if you have them. If you would like to share anything, please upload your contribution to this folder on Dropbox.

This morning we were entertained by Will Harpur, Doug Harrison, Glenn Hui, Asha Nayer (Y11) and Ethan Wood - a great way to end the week.

Boys - please remember to clean out your lockers of all perishable items and clothing that may need a wash before finishing the term on Friday 26 June.

When the boys return to school to commence Term 3 on Monday 20 July, they are required to wear full school Winter Uniform including Boater and Blazer and they also need to only use their Knox School bags.

Be the best version of yourself.

Be kind to yourself.

With just one week left of Term 2, our focus now turns to some well-earned rest, family time and, of course, a plan that will ensure some productive study time over the three week break. The boys were given a A3 Study Planner on Monday and they have had some time to consider what needs to be done to allow them to return in Term 3 prepared and confident as they enter the next round of assessments that include the Trial HSC Examinations from Week 5. The template will also be emailed to the boys, linked to this newsletter and on the Knox portal.

We have been able to compile an academic program that will be delivered by various departments over the three week break. Please refer to this link for specific details outlined in the program. We would like to take this opportunity to thank the Heads of Departments and their staff for offering this support during non-term time.

We have reinforced the importance of on-going and consistent revision and study, formulated around a study plan. The boys need to ensure they have a good balance and to keep exercising and maintaining a healthy diet and sleep regime. Seniors’ Hall will be open over the three-week period from 8am-4pm. The Academic coaches will also be available throughout this time from 10am-2pm.

Food Drive

Traditionally in the winter months, we do a food drive of daily staples for Sydney families who are struggling and living in very challenging conditions. This will continue from now and into Week 3 of Term 3. The following non-perishable donations may be handed in to me or Mrs Clarke's office: long life milk, cereal, coffee, tea, cans of meat, vegetables, fruit and/or soup, cup of soup, dried fruit. School holiday sports training for Senior School
Following on from the Headmaster's announcements last week that CAS Winter Sport will start in Term 3, please note the training schedule for the coming holidays can now be found on the Knox app. We are mindful it is holiday time and a valuable time with family, however if your boy(s) are available we would love to give them the opportunity to best prepare for the winter season.

As always, if there are any questions regarding the schedule, please do not hesitate to email the Knox Sports and Aquatic Academy or directly with your son’s chosen sport.

The Knox Sports and Aquatic Academy will also have more information prior to the holidays regarding exactly how a day at each facility will look for players, staff and spectators on game day. This is being put together following government guidelines and the School policy regarding providing a COVID-19 safe environment for all.
