Knox is a school that focuses on the academic, physical, social and spiritual lives of young men through our Total Fitness educational model. The model is age-specific and accounts for the different and complex worlds of the Prep School boy and the young man preparing for university.

Our educational model is strongly aligned to our values, focussing on educating the boys about how to become a good man. This is one of the reasons I am so proud of Knox. I love our clarity of purpose. We know who we are; we know where we are going. Our primary purpose is to build “fine young men”- to assist young men to become the very best human being they are capable of becoming – a person of character who will shape a positive future for themselves and the wider community.

As Week 7 comes to an end, many of the Class of 2021 have been heavily involved across the academic, sporting and co-curricular realms of the School.

We start with a slightly hoarse cry of back, to back, to back, to back, to back!! Thursday was a day that emanated school spirit at its best as the mighty Black and Blue got behind their fantastic CAS Swim and Dive Team. The theatre and spectacle of the CAS Assembly certainly set the tone for the successful performances to follow as the boys secured their 5th straight CAS Swimming Title. The Tartan Army leaders, Orthy, Dom and Ayden together with the Swim Team Captains, Tyler, Joshua, Joseph and Michael, rallied their collective teams as they progressed confidently towards the chlorine fuelled cauldron that is SOPAC. The hard work of all the athletes involved is to be celebrated; from the divers through to each and every swimmer across the different age groups and strokes, the entire team was ably spurred on by the never wavering Tartan Army clan. It was a particularly special night for the Year 12 competitors representing their beloved team for the last time and they have done themselves proud and must know that they have left an indelible legacy for generations to aspire to. To Joshua, Joseph, Michael, Tyler, Ben Rothery, Ben Shen, Toby, Dylan, Angus and Lachlan - we congratulate you and thank you for your dedication and devotion to the sport that you love.

We did it! CAS winners for 2021. As mentioned by the Team Leaders above, yesterday was the CAS Swimming and Diving Championships Assembly in front of the whole school - followed by the fierce competition in the pool at SOPAC. It was fantastic to be part of this much anticipated event on the School calendar. Today we are all re-living the excitement, fun, camaraderie, cheers and overwhelming support to the teams by the very large contingent of Co2021 in full voice. Seeing proud parents was also great to share. What an experience - one not soon forgotten! Huge congratulations to all the competitors, especially the Year 12 students who were part of the Swimming and Diving teams representing Knox that had us sitting on the edge of our seats. All these dedicated young men performed incredibly with loud support by the Tartan Army and spectators .... all in all an occasion to remember.

Congratulations to the following Battle of the Bands Finalists for 2021: Dreamville (Y12), Scapegoat (Y12), Broken Forks (Y11), The Unknown (Y9) and The Curls (Y10). Well done and good luck to all the bands for the finals. The finals take place early in Term 2.

Reports
This evening reports will be published online through Student Café and Parent Lounge.

Some notes about the reports:

• Based on subject programming, the completion of assessments across subjects is variable. Some subjects have completed two tasks, while others haven’t yet had a formal assessment to report on.
• Some subjects will finalise assessment marks for the latest task. To capture these marks, all reports will be refreshed at the end of Week 8.
• For extra-curricular activities, only some will be listed at present. Other extra-curricular activities including colours will appear on the refreshed report.
• Illness/Misadventure applications that have been submitted to date have all been processed and the boys have been notified by Mrs Billington. The review of any assessment in relation to illness/misadventure cannot occur until after the Trial Examinations. Any review must be done with a comparison to another demonstrated performance by the student (preferably a comparable task if possible), and this cannot occur until all assessments have been completed.

As we move straight into the winter program, we must recognise some of the incredible performances over the past summer from so many talented boys and teams.

Our First Water Polo team have been crowned CAS Champions for the second consecutive season with an unbeaten run against CAS schools – only to be denied the CAS/GPS shield following a narrow loss to Newington. The team will finish their season tonight with a huge match in the Knox pool against Scots.

Our First Basketballers also enjoyed another championship season - this time joint CAS Premiers with Trinity Grammar. Our team showed immense composure and skill on Friday night against Cranbrook to lift the Rev A.V Smith Shield for the ninth time overall and the third consecutive year.

Normal Mental Ill-Health
It’s normal for adolescents to experience mental health challenges. Research tells us that approximately 30% of boys will be diagnosed with an anxiety disorder before the age of 18, and 14% will experience a period of depression (Reis et al., 2010). Over our lifetimes, it is estimated that 45% of all Australians will go through at least one period of mental ill-health. While not all of our students will experience a period of mental ill-health themselves, its highly likely that they have a friend or a family member who has.

Ride with Richter Fundraiser Friday 5 March

Last Friday, a few students from the Co2021 helped organise and support the Ride with Richter fundraiser held at Knox Prep and Wahroonga Prep. Alex Richter (OKG20) spoke to Years 3 to 6 on resilience and handed out ribbons and words of support to all the competitors as they crossed the finish line.

Thank you to Jack Hildebrand, Rafael Casas, Hamish Chan, Nic Rogers, Sam Druce, Bill Parker and Rudy Harricks on ensuring it was an extremely successful and fun day!
