YEAR 12 WEEK 6 TERM 2 2020

Year 12 Week 6 Term 2 2020

Hero Image

Maintaining good habits has been the theme around this week, especially as assessments are ramping up. Term 2 tends to be the busiest time and this year is no different, so it is great to see the year group taking everything in their stride. It is also apparent that recent experiences have built a greater sense of camaraderie within the year group and it has been amazing to see increased collaboration in the Seniors' Hall and in the classroom since returning to school a few weeks ago. We continue to miss the boys who are overseas or learning from home at the moment – we hope to see you soon!

At Year Meeting this week, Mrs Price provided some valuable advice on managing the balance between healthy stress and overwhelming stress. She highlighted how important it is to have an outlet and also to engage in exercise, which can provide stress release and also allows for healthier sleep patterns. In fact, Jamie Oliver credits changing his sleep routine with improving his health, explaining that ‘the most powerful exercise in the gym is sleep’. I am sure all of the boys would benefit from trying to maintain a structured sleep routine and removing the temptation of technology during the evenings. Some research says it only takes 21 days to change a habit, which would definitely benefit them in the lead up to trials and the HSC.

Many of the boys are beginning to drive and understand the challenges that this involves, which makes Matt Robert’s achievements last week even more impressive. Last Thursday, Matt took his first solo flight at Bankstown Airport and at Year Meeting he spoke of the thrill but also the overwhelming need for concentration. Well done, Matt!

Whether you’re staying at home or enjoying a well-deserved break, enjoy the long weekend!

The Community Prefect Team

Last week Years 11 and 12 students wrote cards to the Years 5 and 6 students at Wahroonga Prep and Knox Prep. This week they received their cards and we captured some great photos of their excitement! This is a great celebration of the Knox community and we hope to continue to connect with the other campuses.

Safety around the School

In the time since returning to the campus it has been encouraging to see so many students embracing their time at school. There have been a number of changes put in place and it is pleasing to see how many of the students have positively responded to the changes and applied themselves to their studies.

With increased numbers of students being dropped off and picked up at school and in the streets surrounding the Senior School campus, there has been increased delays for students getting to and from school. Knox is working closely with Roads and Maritime NSW (RMS), NSW Transport Management Centre (TMC), NSW Police and Ku-ring-gai Council to minimise delays. We have been advised by the TMC that their inspectors with the assistance of NSW Police will be making regular patrols during these times to ensure the free flow of traffic.

The safety of our students, staff and local community are our key priority. It is essential all drivers follow the road rules and parking restrictions so as to promote the safest possible environment for our boys, staff and community members. We request drivers entering Woodville Avenue:

• Obey the 40km/h speed limits
• Utilise the recently extended drop off/pick up zones whenever available (the bus zone extending to the Pacific Highway has temporarily been designated 'drop and go')
• Stop in a safe area for students to get out of vehicles
• Do not complete a u-turn over the double lines outside the school gate
• Park legally when dropping off or pick up students

Should you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact the School. We rely on our community for feedback and it is always welcomed and appreciated.
