Together with Bravehearts (Knox’s child protection education and training partner) we are again inviting parents to participate in an online child protection course. Knox has been working closely with Bravehearts to co-design education and training programs for staff, students and parents over many years. The parent online course has been written to provide increased awareness and understanding of child protection issues and strategies, with the intent of promoting the safety of young people. If you would like to register for the course please complete this online form.

In addition to the online course, Bravehearts provides information and resources to parents and caregivers. These resources offer practical suggestions for: Keeping your child safe online; facts about sexual assault and exploitation; FAQs; and resources for parents to teach their child about personal safety. To access these resources please click on this link.

Nearly 40 boys trialed for positions in the Year 12 Netball team this week. The level of skill was excellent and all participants enjoyed the speed and intensity of the sport. During week 6, the boys will participate in a charity game against their peers from Pymble Ladies College, with all money raised going to the Hornsby Women’s Shelter.

At Assembly this week, the School celebrated the diverse cultures amongst our community. Philo Wu shared his experiences of travelling to and from Beijing each term and how he has embraced the Australian and Knox cultures. Hamish McMaster spoke of the challenges that his hometown of Coolah have experienced in recent times. The bravery and resilience of both these boys was on display and highlights the importance of sharing these experiences.

There were some fantastic sporting results over the weekend, including the Open Firsts Water Polo who played the formidable Newington College, with the draw leaving them in contention for the CAS title. In the Open Firsts Tennis, the boys beat the previously unbeaten Trinity Grammar team 6 sets to 2. At the Basketball, the Tartan Army was in full voice and they are beginning to make quite a name from themselves amongst the community. Their passion for Knox is exceptional and so too is the sporting way in which they provide support to their peers. It was certainly appreciated as the 2nds were convincing winners and the 1sts  won a nailbiter, harnessing the positive energy for a narrow two-point victory over Trinity Grammar. At Assembly on Thursday, Mr James spoke of this being a significant part of the legacy from the Class of 2020 – long may it continue!

The summer season of sport is soon coming to an end the focus will switch to winter sports. It will be the last opportunity for many of the boys to represent Knox, so it is essential to dedicate themselves to their teams and individual pursuits by making sure to attend all training and games. Sport is an intrinsic part of the healthy balance of academic and co-curricular endeavours at school, especially during Year 12 studies.

It was great to share the experience with the Year 12 Geography students this week on the sand dunes at Stockton. The boys had the opportunity to talk to the local Worimi people about the importance of valuing and preserving the environment. The boys also got experience quad biking and sandboarding – great fun indeed!

All the best for the weekend. Up the Black and Blue!

It was wonderful to catch up with so many parents on Friday night at Knox at Home. What a beautiful evening under the stars and to hear the Pipes and Drums was sensational.

Good luck Fin Cameron, Cameron Mitchell, James Shewell and Ed Watts as they head off today to attend the 2020 ACT State Sailing Championships in Canberra this weekend.

With assessments well underway, it is great to see so many boys using Seniors' Hall for study in the morning and after school. If your son has been granted leave by Mr Weeding, in lie of study during periods 1 and or 7 he must sign in with me in the morning when he arrives at school, and with me before leaving school grounds in the afternoon. All students are required to be at school for period 2 on Fridays, they should arrive at 8.55am in time for class at 9am.

Could you please remind your sons that if they have an EpiPen or a Ventolin puffer, they should have it with them at all times, and take it with them to sport, training, Saturday games and excursions. All medications should be kept at the Clinic, not in lockers, pencil cases etc. Please ask your sons to bring medications to the Clinic, and they can come and collect them to take when needed.

Have a lovely weekend.

Young Endeavour Youth Scheme

The Young Endeavour Youth Scheme is pleased to announce the applications for voyages on STS Young Endeavour in 2020 are now open.

Since 1988, more than 14, 000 young Australians aged 16 to 23 have joined the national sail training ship 'Young Endeavour' on a life changing voyage. The internationally recognised youth development program builds self-awareness, develops leadership and communication skills, and fosters a sense of community responsibility in participants.

On board, 24 young people from across Australia form a youth crew. Over eleven days they learn all the skills required to sail a square-rigged tall ship including keeping watch, handling lines on deck, taking the helm, navigating using the ship’s charts, cooking in the galley and climbing the 30-metre mast to set and furl the sails. No sailing experience required. The program is delivered by a professional Royal Australian Navy crew who ensure the highest standards of safety and encourage the youth to pursue personal and team goals and challenges.

If you are interested applications can be made here. Voyage fees and conditions will apply to successful applicants. Potential applicants should apply now for the best chance of being selected for a voyage.

World's Greatest Shave

This iconic event, the World's Greatest Shave is one of Australia's biggest fundraisers. It's an annual event where family, friends, businesses and individuals come together to raise money by getting sponsored to be brave and shave their head. The money from sponsors will go towards research, which is needed to find better treatments and cures for leukaemias, lymphomas, myeloma and related blood disorders.

Your sponsorship will also support families when they need it most, providing leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma patients with a free home-away-from-home near hospital during their treatment. It will also mean we can transport them to appointments and provide as much practical assistance and emotional support as we can, all free of charge.

Join the Knox team - sign up today. If your not brave enough to shave please sponsor someone and donate generously for those that are!
