YEAR 12 WEEK 3 TERM 1 2020

Year 12 Week 3 Term 1 2020

Hero Image

It was another interesting start to the week with some boys unable to get to school due to the weekend storm. However, the rain was pleasing to see and hopefully it provided some relief to our rural families.

This week in Year Meeting, Andrew Weeding explained the importance of working collaboratively to lift the performance of every student. This social learning enables a deeper understanding of the subject material through peer discussion, and often the boys comment that they come to realise what they don’t know. In the presentation, the boys were shown data from the Class of 2019 that demonstrated the potential value adding possible where effective collaboration occurs, regardless of rank. Many assessments are looming over the coming weeks and the boys are encouraged to utilise opportunities for group learning as well as continue to seek feedback from teachers. As always, it is important to balance school work, sleep, exercise and social time to ensure the boys are keeping on top of their work as well as looking after themselves.

On a different note, about 40 Year 12 boys came to learn the rules of netball yesterday as we plan to take on the PLC Pymble girls in a charity game in a few weeks. There are some very keen netballers out there – for some boys, I think, it was the first time they have ever been early for a lesson! For those who don’t make the team, we would love to see their support during the match. It should be a fun afternoon.

This Saturday, the Tartan Army will be in full force as our basketballers take on Trinity. These are the moments that create those special memories of their final year of school. It would be great to see as many boys as possible cheering on the team.

We wish all our sporting teams the best of luck this weekend. Go the Black and Blue!

On Tuesday afternoon Mr James and I had the privilege of visiting Alex Richter. Mr James presented Alex with his new Tartan Army top. Alex is an inspiration, with his wonderfully positive mindset.

If your son is driving to and from school or to any school activities, could I please ask that you complete this Driver's form and return it to me.

The lunchtime concerts started last Friday. Our Year 12s have a performance assessment in Week 5, so they’ll be performing in the next few weeks to prepare for their assessment. Today we enjoyed performances by Alex Campbell, Sebastian McCaughey, Calum Pincott, Morgan Singleton and Ethan Wood. The concert was held in the Wenkart Theatre.

I would like to  congratulate Lachie Donaldson and Dan Hardyman – both selected in the CAS Open Cricket team to play later this term and trial for the CIS Schoolboy squad.

All boys have been sent an email with a link to an electronic form which will enable them to select their winter sport choice. If the email has not been received, please contact the Sports office. All forms are due to be submitted by Friday 21 February.

Any boy that missed Knox Swim trials on Saturday, 1 February has one last chance to qualify on Monday, 17 February from 7am in Knox pool.

On Wednesday this week, the 1st XI Football CIS Cup Squad consisting of Sam Biggs, Lockyer Couvret, Max Couvret, Harry Eland, Massimo Forlico, William Polkinhorne, Jordan Segreto, Luke Tedesco, Lucas Van De Scheur, Blake Wilson and Ethan Wood won Round 1 versus St Euphemia College, - 6-nil. Congratulations boys!

Have a lovely weekend,

Projects wanted for Year 10 Service Learning Project

The Middle Academy is launching an ambitious project to refresh our Service Learning Program in 2020. We aim to engage all Year 10 students with local and national community organisations in order for the boys to fill these organisations’ needs. This will involve staff and students working directly with the organisations to identify areas of need and design and deliver products, services or initiatives for the organisations.

In order to ensure an effective program for both the students and the organisations, Knox is encouraging all community members with connections to community organisations, Rotary clubs, non-for-profit organisations and special interest groups to reach out to us with the hope we will be able to fill a need for the organisations.

Some examples of potential projects might include:

  • Design and deliver a new awareness campaign
  • Webpage design and publication
  • Developing a fundraising initiative
  • Creation of a community mural to replace graffiti
  • Providing IT support of senior citizens

We are encouraging community organisations from all walks of like to reach out to Knox. An information evening for all potential organisations will be held on Wednesday 26 February from 6.30pm – 7.30pm.

If you have a connection to an organisation you think may be able to benefit from our project, please reach out to Tom Waterhouse, Director of Student Development Stage 5 or RSVP for your organisations here .
