YEAR 11 WEEK 1 TERM 3 2020

Year 11 Week 1 Term 3 2020

Hero Image

Term 3 is upon us already, and it is clear that the extra week of holidays have made all the difference. The boys look refreshed and rejuvenated, and the start to their final term in Year 11 has been a strong one.

For many boys, the term started on Sunday afternoon with our Boarders returning one day earlier than traditionally. For a host of future leaders, the 2020 Knox Leadership Conference was attended on the Sunday afternoon, and the feedback was phenomenal. Seb Henriksen summarised the afternoon for our cohort this week, providing a number of fantastic take-home messages. This is timely, with applications for the Year 12 (2021) Leadership Portfolios closing at the start of the week, drawing huge interest from the cohort. The applications are very strong, and the process is underway to select our Prefects for 2021.

Mr Nunan spoke to the year group about the Skills of Accomplishment, a program to be run throughout our mentor sessions this term. The program will be of enormous benefit to the boys as they move into Year 12, focusing on auditing study habits, quadrants of quality and effective planning, maximising information recall, effective study methods and types of feedback.

The assembly this week saw the presentation of the 1st Teams and Captains for various sports, and the Team Leaders were extremely proud to see such a strong representation from Year 11. Knox sporting success is guaranteed until the end of 2021 at the very least! Good luck to all boys, in all teams taking part in competition this weekend.

With Preliminary Exams taking place in Week 7, and this being the final term before Year 12, there is plenty of motivation for these boys to double-down and strive to be at their best. Have a great weekend and be sure to contact your son’s teachers, mentors or Team Leaders if you have any questions or concerns about your son’s progress.

Welcome to Term 3 and the final term of Year 11 for the cohort. How quickly this year is going.

During the third week of the term break it was my pleasure to be supervising both the Year 11 and Year 12 students who took the opportunity to come in to utilise the spaces and tutors in the WSA. The Year 11 cohort were very well represented and I enjoyed having the opportunity of talking to them over the week.

Last Saturday I managed to get to Acron Oval and watch the AFL game - and what a game it was. Congratulations on a very convincing win! Please enjoy the plethora of sport photos from last weekend below in the photo gallery.

A reminder email was sent on Wednesday to all parents for the Year 12 2021 jersey orders. Please note the deadline for these orders is next Friday 31 July with no changes or late orders able to be accepted. If you have not received the generated email (sent to parents, not students) please let me know. Jerseys will be delivered and distributed in Term 4 when we become the Year 12 students of Knox.

For your convenience, I have included again the Yearly Examination Schedule. Please click here for the Term 3 Assessment Chart and here for the Semester 2 Evening Study roster of staff and Old Boys. A reminder that all this information, previous newsletters and forms may be found on the Year 11 portal either on the home page or under the academic tab.

Currently we are asking parents to include a detailed reason when submitting absences for any illness. Your assistance with this is greatly appreciated.

Finally, I would like to wish all the Year 11 participants for the Knox Track and Field Championships next Wednesday all the best in their events.

Since the issuing of the Half Yearly Report last term, some boys have received assessments back. Consequently, next week we will publish an interim report. The interim report will have the most up-to-date set of marks including the cumulative assessment mark, assessment average, current rank, number in course and it will show the percentage of assessment that has been completed for each subject. As it isn’t a full report it will not have teacher comments or dispositions. Furthermore, the interim report will not include estimates for any illness/misadventure applications as these marks will not be finalised until after the Yearly Exams. The report will be published on Student Café and Parent Lounge before the end of the week. Mrs Barnard will send a notification by email when they have been released.
