I have been reminded this term of the many opportunities available to students ... opportunities that may facilitate a young person’s sense of belonging to Knox. Whether it be young men representing in sport or house events, cheering for friends, participating in camps, excursions, musicals and other co-curricular activities or fundraising activities such as World’s Greatest Shave and Ride with Richter Day. What is really exciting is that many of these opportunities are student-led, with our young men not only having a significant voice, but believing that their voice can lead to positive change.

As we approach the end of term, I am filled with utmost admiration of our boys. Almost daily, I witness young men leading their school. They are obviously passionate, committed and motivated to contribute to the community. When the world is showing signs of hunger for authentic leadership, I only need to look across our campuses to be filled with optimism for the future.

Finally, I would like to wish you all a happy and safe holiday. In this season of Lent, we prepare our hearts and our minds for the Easter experience, a special celebration of peace, joy, love and hope.

Looking ahead to next term there is much to be excited about, but for now it is time for families to enjoy time together. Term 2 begins on Tuesday 20 April. Staff will be attending their Staff Development Day on Monday 19 April and will be engaged in professional learning.

Scott James

At our whole of school Easter service on Wednesday, Headmaster Scott James gave Year 10 a special mention for the glowing reviews he has received from staff and members of the public in relation to our boys’ standard of behaviour, especially when out in the public as ambassadors for Knox. It has been a big term, although short, and our boys have demonstrated great perseverance and stamina to make it through to the finish line (we’re almost there!). I have enjoyed accompanying the boys on Geography and Religion & Ethics excursions this term, and have been impressed by their conduct throughout minimum standards testing and careers testing. I am also impressed with the overall approach boys have had to their assessments, making fantastic use of the Academy of Global Competency to work with their peers and seek help from subject teachers.

I wish all boys the very best of luck on AFX and Year 10 Challenge Camp in the coming week. I will be making the trip to Jindabyne, so will get to see our non-Cadet boys in action, and I look forward to hearing reports and seeing photos from our boys at AFX. I am sure all boys will finish out the term in their usual inimitable style, upholding their stellar reputation and continuing to build upon the strong relationships that make our Class of 2023 so special.

Gym opening hours
During the school holidays, students are welcome to use the gym should they need to exercise. Students are required to complete the Gym permission form which may be found here, prior to turning up at the gym. The gym is open on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 8am to 12pm.

Finally, I hope the boys have a wonderful time at camp and that they make the most of their trip. I look forward to hearing all about their adventures when they are back in Term 2.

Knox vs Joeys – Rugby
The Knox Grammar 1st XV Rugby team has been invited to play a curtain raiser on Saturday 24 April at Bankwest Stadium from 5.30pm against St Joseph's College. This is another wonderful opportunity for our Tartan supporters to crank up the vocal chords and enjoy being a part of the Black and Blue. An invite will be sent on Monday of Week 1 next term to all students with more details including any free tickets available.

Holidays
A number of training camps and training sessions have been arranged for this coming holiday break. If you are interested and your son is available, please check the Knox App for details or email Sport.

Term 2 – key dates
Term 2 will see a regular routine of weekly training and Saturday sport right through to the long weekend (12 June). Some key dates to consider and plan ahead for include:

• Thursday 22 April – Winter team captains announced to the School and a summer sport 'celebration'.
• Saturday 24 April – Knox 1st XV vs St Joseph's 1st XV at Bankwest Stadium from 5.30pm
• Friday 14 May – 1st XI Football under lights here on Knox 1 vs Cranbrook
• Thursday 10 June – CAS vs GPS Representative Rugby under lights here on Knox 1

Baseball – Grand Final
Unfortunately for our boys, their Grand Final was washed out last week and moved to this coming weekend. Once again – good luck team.

CIS Football Cup


On Wednesday, our 1st XI Football team hosted Lindisfarme School in round 2 of the CIS Football Cup. It was a great occasion and a wonderful opportunity for us to host a school from the far north coast. Knox went on to win, 3-1, but the afternoon was about much more than a result. Lindisfarme enjoyed the hospitality of our boarders' catering for lunch, then had some time to stretch and warm up in our gym/weights area before playing a great game then heading back home.

Wet weather amd selections
Weather continues to have a huge impact on our ability to train and run selection trials for many sports. Please remain patient and feel confident we will have the boys prepared for their respective season. Selections are always difficult, however, with some time our dedicated team of coaches will monitor boys at training and in the early part of Term 2 and adjust team selections along the way. If I have one regret in all my years of playing sport – it was spending too much time worrying about selections and not spending more time just enjoying the time I had making new friends and teammates. Please help us to have similar conversations with your boys.

CIS Golf
Congratulations to our golfers who capped off a great season with four boys selected in the CIS team. An incredible effort and we wish the boys all the best in their fixture at the NSW All Schools tournament:

Tennis
Miles Phijidvijan was selected to represent Sydney Metropolitan Tennis squad to compete in the 2021 NSW 12u State Teams Championships. The event is being held in Bathurst this weekend and the team will play for the 'Tony Roche Cup'. Miles is Captain of his team. Miles has also qualified for the Australian Junior Tennis Championships and he will be representing NSW in the National 12u Boys Australian Claycourt Championships to be held in Canberra in April. Good luck, Miles.

Swimming
11 Knox Boys represented Knox Pymble Swim Club at the 2021 NSW State Open Swimming Championships held at the Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre last weekend. Our boys found themselves competing against potential and current Olympians, and the top swimmers from other states. Racing in the afternoon to secure their spot for the finals session the following morning, all finals sessions were well represented by Knox boys, in both A and B finals. Two Knox relays won medals during the competition. Well done team.

Tuckshop volunteers will be required to adhere to the following COVID-19 requirements:

• Do not attend if unwell, even with the mildest of symptoms
• Sign in at main reception, 2 Borambil Street, prior to meeting a Sodexo Supervisor in the Middle Academy Canteen
• Gloves, hair net and apron to be worn - provided by Sodexo
• Face mask to be worn – please bring your own
• Practise good hygiene (hand sanitisation etc.)
• Maintain a physical distance of 1.5m from other adults
• Comply with food safety requirements as instructed by Sodexo

Second Chance Appeal 
We're still seeking donations of good quality clothing for the Second Chance Appeal; an initiative of Parramatta Mission and the Thread Harvest.
