Welcome back and welcome to those families who have joined the Knox community for Term 2.

Hopefully the holidays were an opportunity for students to clear the clutter, to recharge and to set personal goals for the term ahead. To get the most out of Term 2, it is essential that students organise themselves well and establish positive routines. Encourage your sons, if they have not done so already, to spend time outlining their goals as well as identifying strategies that will assist them in attaining their targets. I can confidently say the planning and hard work will pay off, and that staff look forward to supporting the boys over the coming months.

I cannot believe we are about to enter the winter sport season after a very enjoyable and successful summer season. There is a real sense of belief amongst the boys with our results and participation at all levels reaching new heights.

It has been wonderful to see the young men of the Class of 2023 return to school looking refreshed and ready to embrace all the challenges and opportunities Term 2 has to offer. I have enjoyed hearing from them about the highlights of their holidays. They appear rejuvenated and ready to strive for their best during this busy term.

NSW Health offers vaccinations against four types of Meningicoccal disease given as one injection through the school vaccination program. Vaccinations for Year 10 students will take place on Wednesday 16 June. Next week your son’s mentor will give him a vaccination card and information sheet from NSW Health. Should you wish your son to be vaccinated, this form needs to be completed and returned to Mrs Hodgson by Friday 4 June. Students can only be vaccinated if the original document is returned fully completed. Electronic copies of the vaccination card will not be accepted. During the vaccination process, the nurses will be asking your son if he has received any vaccines in the past 12 months. If your son has received any vaccines in the past 12 months, please attach a copy of the vaccination certificate to the immunisation consent form and send this in to school.

It has been a pleasure to welcome boys back to school this week. I commend the boys on a positive start; overall the standard of uniform and hair has been quite impressive, although several boys may have discovered that they are a little larger than when they last put on their winter uniform. I have enjoyed hearing stories of what boys got up to in their holidays and it certainly sounds as though they enjoyed time to rest and relax with friends and family.

This year is certainly flashing before our eyes. It was great to welcome all the students back on the school grounds on Tuesday and they all looked quite smart in their winter uniform. I hope you have all enjoyed the down time and were able to have some time away from the hustle and bustle of your day to day lives. The boys have shared some fantastic holiday adventures with me on their return and are now slowly getting back into the routine.

Sports Achievement
During the school holidays two of our students participated in sporting events and achieved great things.

Year 11 2022 Subject Selections Information
On Monday 3 May (Week 3A) the Subject Selection Evening (part 1) will be conducted via a Vimeo video link in light of the current social distancing regulations and difficulties in our venues with large gatherings. This presentation will include information from the Head of Mathematics and English along with related information around patterns of study at Knox and NESA requirements. Issues around scaling and the differences between the role of NESA and University Admission Centre (UAC) will also be addressed. The purpose of this evening is to start the process of selecting subjects by allowing the boys to make informed decisions that are right for them. Later in the term the boys will be given access to the website that allows them to make their preliminary subject selections for Year 11 2022. The boys will receive an email with respect to the Mathematics Preliminary Placement (MPP) and English Preliminary Placement (EPP). Please note that they will have the opportunity for review via Mr Vuletich and Mr Kantek respectively.

Uniform
Welcome back to Term 2. It was great to see all the students return to school looking sharp in their winter uniform.

I kindly request parents to check that their son has the correct school winter uniform and that it fits! Please note that the school uniform requires a belt to be worn, an item which many boys are choosing to overlook. Colourful socks do not meet the School's uniform code.

In addition, a reminder that a student's hair needs to be above his eyebrows and off his ears and collar. The School Diary has further information regarding School rules around the uniform policy and hair. It is important that the boys take pride in their appearance. Look sharp, work smart.

In order to download these guides for free, you will need to ensure you have firstly created an account (using the school code of KNOX20). Once the account is created, you will need to ensure you are logged into the Careers Hub in order to access the guides. A reminder that important messages are posted on the Careers Hub, so I encourage students and parents to check for new messages on a weekly basis.

Welcome back everyone. I hope you had a relaxing, enjoyable and safe Easter break.

Before I report on all of the wonderful news from Sport over the break, I would like to take the opportunity to remind all families of the latest COVID-19 restrictions you may encounter this coming weekend.

Each school has very similar policies with regard to number of spectators permitted, however, there are a number of subtle differences between each school such as canteens. Links to each school policy are shared below.

Process for Sports fixtures - Saturday 24 April 2021
1. Check the team list to see your son’s team – see the Knox app (download instructions)
2. Check the sports draw to see where and when your son’s team is playing – check the Knox app
3. Is he playing at a Knox Grammar School venue? If yes:

• 2 spectator parents/guardians per player at our outdoor venues.
• 2 spectator parent/guardian per player at our indoor venues.
• QR code registration will be in place across all facilities at entry points, with standard health checks and questions.
• Players in all teams should turn up ready to play - no change rooms will be available.
• 'Cashless' Canteens will be open at Curagul and Gillespie.
• Players should bring their own labelled water bottles and snacks, if required.
• Players should leave immediately after completion of their fixture.
• Teams due to play in the Great Hall and Lawson Centre or on MacNeil courts will need to wait on Boulevard until they may enter the facility. This will depend on finish time of previous fixture.
