Mr Scott James

The summer sporting season is well and truly under way and students are taking advantage of the many opportunities available to them.

I am always proud of our students because of the passion, spirit and fair play they exhibit as they compete. They model an ability to represent competitively and play to win, but always within the rules and with a respect for the opposition.

Research suggests that through regular participation in organised sport, students receive significant opportunities to improve their health, strengthen their emotional skills, and acquire important social capabilities.

With this in mind, school sport must be exactly that – school sport. It should never become more than that – ever – regardless whether its Prep or Senior school competition.

Cadets

The Knox Grammar School Cadet Unit this week continued to undertake assigned tasks within companies. Recently, Operations platoons and specialist platoons (such as Engineering, Pioneers and Construction) have combined forces to create a more unique experience for the recruits to experience on AFX. Teamwork is an important aspect of Cadets and these Senior Platoons are learning to cooperate and work with their peers to develop strong camaraderie and esprit de corps.

Dr Wainberg is a consultant with a particular interest in resource recovery from waste materials, the development of practical waste management strategies, and how processing technology can be successfully applied to recover resources from waste. The boys were amazed at the history and impact of recycling and the fact that our waste generation over the next 20 years is projected to be 109 Mega tonnes. Mrs Sue Floro

I do love a good K-2 Christmas Concert and last week’s event was truly spectacular! Sitting in the audience, in our amazing JAPAC facility, waiting for the show to start, I reflected on many years of Christmas Concert experience and was ever so grateful to be an audience member! I cannot think of anything harder than getting a K-2 concert on stage…little people, big ideas, singing, dancing, choreography, movement, so many lines to be learned!

Student Leave Application
It is the expectation of Knox that students do not take leave for holidays or travel during term time.  The NSW Department of Education’s attendance policy says most family trips outside school holidays will now count as an “unjustified” absence on a student’s permanent record.

The Head of Prep School, Mrs Sue Floro, may grant leave for boys to attend special events.  These requests should be made to Mrs Floro well in advance of the proposed leave date(s) via Mrs Calautti.

From the Head of Knox Sports and Aquatic Academy

knox/bios/2021/10/22/Haywood_Martin.jpg

Mr Martin Haywood

Last week has again been a huge week in the Knox Sports Academy with so much going on – and many more remarkable results across all codes.

It all started on Friday afternoon with a number of fixtures having a huge impact on CAS ladders and Championships.

Our First and Second Tennis teams played Barker due to a clash in the calendar next weekend and our young squad relished the Friday afternoon atmosphere with a  7 – 1 result to Knox in both fixtures. This result, combined with a huge 8 – 0 win on Saturday against Cranbrook has Knox sitting on top of the CAS Championship and well placed leading into term 1. For such a young group, this is an amazing achievement against some of the best schoolboy Tennis players across NSW.

Our Basketballers also were excited about their first Friday night game of the season and crossed the bridge to play Cranbrook School. Our 2nds enjoyed a strong win 41-32 whilst our Firsts put on another brilliant display and locked in top spot on the CAS Championship with a 83-73 win and now look forward to hosting Barker this weekend.
