Headmaster's Column
Mr Scott James
As we monitor the advice from health authorities regarding social distancing and the use of public transport, Knox is anticipating that the School will need to move to only online learning in the near future.
The School has the capacity to move in this direction, but at the moment we are also conscious that the government is in favour of schools remaining open.
Therefore, we wish to adopt a stepped approach for the remainder of this term.

From the Head of the Preparatory School

The power of our community is in our interactions with and connection to each other.
Our boys are so connected to their school and to their classmates and our aim is to provide as close to a face to face experience as we can for our boys. We are keen to give you the choice as to whether your son learns at home or at school.
For several weeks now, we have been trialling a number of online applications and software packages. We have been using Google Meet as a virtual classroom space and on Tuesday afternoon we ran a trial of this from the home environment for Years 3-6. It was so good to see the boys excited about connecting with their teachers and there has been a real buzz in the air about it. As I speak our K-2 boys are busy practising this today at School.

Student-Led Clubs
Coding Club, Graphic Novel Club, Movie Making Club ... are just some of the clubs our teachers run here at Knox Prep. These passionate teachers dedicate their time and demonstrate their sometimes hidden skill sets to enhance the boys' love of learning and the culture of the School.
This year the tables have turned and the boys are taking over the clubs!

The attachment relationship between you and your son is the foundation for all future relationships. Connection builds inner security and a healthy sense of self. For this reason, it is important to practice healthy iPad routines with your family. How you use your iPad or other device will provide a model for how your child uses it. Put your phone down - wherever you are - and direct your attention to your child.
Year 1 News
Mrs Emma Donaldson, Year 1 Team Leader
It has been wonderful to visit classrooms and see students developing friendships in their 2020 classes. When you walk into a Year 1 classroom, positive, respectful and collaborative relationships and their importance to student wellbeing is evident.
Positive relationships foster connectedness and belonging and are essential for wellbeing for learning. They are characterised by constructive interactions that provide genuine support. They are important because they help to build social and emotional skills and in turn nurture other positive, caring and respectful relationships.
Kindergarten News
Mrs Mary-Mae Burton, Kindergarten Team Leader
In Mathematics, Kindergarten has been learning our ‘friends of ten’ facts. We have been developing our knowledge and understanding of combinations of ten. Through songs, games, playing and creating with manipulatives, the boys have been exploring the different ways two numbers can make ten and recording these facts. Boys have been recognising patterns we can see, learning about turn around facts and talking about how ‘friends of ten’ are important and useful.
Year 3 News
Mr Glenn Stephenson, Year 3 Team Leader
Knox Prep is actively involved in Service Learning and this year, Year 3 boys will be supporting local homeless people by providing a meal for them on set Fridays through ‘The Dish’ organisation. As such, students will be required to prepare various meals for the homeless on a rotational roster. Every class will be allocated two different blocks of time and these will be rotated amongst the four Year 3 classes accordingly. Further information on this important initiative is also available on the relevant Year 3 Portal page. Thank you in advance for your support of this wonderful cause.
Year 4 News
Mr Jared Rastall, Year 4 Team Leader
Resilience is all about responding with confidence to challenges. In Year 4 we want our boys to take risks with their learning; it’s perfectly fine to make mistakes, but more importantly, we want them to ‘bounce forward’ from them. In other words, we want them to feel even better than they felt before. The wellbeing homework this week challenges the boys to consider a time when their power to be resilient was challenged and we hope this task provides some healthy discussion between you and your son.

We are excited to embark on our new unit of learning. Our big idea is Living Things – Impacting, Changing, Adapting. This will take students on an investigation into living things adapting to suit their changing environments.
Sports News
From the Head of Knox Sports and Aquatic Academy
Mr Martin Haywood
Last Thursday saw a very brave and committed Knox Swim and Dive team compete at the annual CAS Championships. A number of challenges were thrown at this remarkable team yet met them head on and performed remarkably well to run out comfortable winners of the CAS Thyne Challenge Shield for the fourth year in a row and the 33rd time overall. There were a number of outstanding performances, but I can’t help but praise Joshua Collett for breaking three individual CAS records and was also a member of two more relay records.
