Headmaster's Column
Mr Scott James
Music and the performing arts have always been part of the Knox culture and grown to be an essential part of school life. To quote Hugh Jackman (OKG86), “The first musical I was ever part of was the phenomenal 'The Music Man'. The year was 1983, and I was at Knox Grammar School in Sydney, Australia. I was one of the travelling salesmen, and I think I can actually (almost) remember that unforgettable opening number! That was probably the moment when the magic of theatre was born in me”.
Last week students in Years 7-12 reprised the School's very first musical, 'Oliver'. The production was the first major production to take place in the new 750 seat Wenkart Auditorium and played to full houses over three nights. The production featured a cast of 170 students from Knox Grammar School, Ravenswood School for Girls and Pymble Ladies' College, a live orchestra and sound and lighting by the student tech crew.

Prep School News
From the Head of the Preparatory School
Mrs Sue Floro
The 11th hour, of the 11th day, of the 11th month - symbolic, impactful, and a message that is as relevant today as it was when the guns fell silent on the Western Front in 1918. Each year at Prep, we commemorate this historic date and remember those who fought so hard for the freedoms we enjoy today. At Prep, our boys lead our services and Monday’s event was led by boys in Years 3-6. We were so impressed with all of our boys’ silence, stillness and reflective manner as they listened to the stories and the poems that we traditionally use to convey the significance of an event as horrific as war, to boys who are only able to imagine what life would have been like in those times. Well done to the boys who led our service and to our trumpeters for their polished performance of the Last Post and Reveille.
K-2 Happenings
Mrs Chris Gray, K-2 Coordinator
We are all excited to share in the energy and fun of the K-2 Concert tonight. The boys will make you proud as they stand tall and sing out loudly. We hope you enjoy the beautiful message in this creative adaptation by Ali Irwin.
Kindergarten News
Mrs Mary-Mae Burton, Kindergarten Team Leader
Congratulations to all the Kindergarten boys this week for their continued enthusiasm, patience and stamina. They truly have displayed our Knox values walking to the Senior School for concert rehearsals in the hot weather conditions, waiting calmly for run throughs and listening attentively for director cues and feedback. The boys are definitely 'performance ready' for tonight with their dazzling dance moves and celestial voices.

Year 4 News
Mr Jared Rastall, Year 4 Team Leader
Remembrance Day
As part of our study on poetry, the boys explored John McCrae’s poem ‘In Flanders Fields’, interpreting the meaning and analysing the poetic techniques employed. This opened up some reflective discussion into the significance of Remembrance Day and the symbols of remembrance, such as the poppy and rosemary. In preparation for our Years 3-6 service, all boys wore a poppy over their heart to recognise the sacrifice both past and present of Australian men and women. The service along with the learning throughout the day was a fitting reflection on the character strengths of bravery, forgiveness, gratitude, hope, kindness, love, perspective and spirituality.
Year 5 News
Mrs Tammy Paterson, Year 5 Team Leader
Inpsired Leadership Course
Our leadership course concluded with our final two speakers, Mr Kai Lammert and Mrs Sue Floro.
Mr Lammert is the head coach of the Pararoos. The Pararoos are the Australian Paralympic Football team. The consists of players who have either Cerebral Palsy or an acquired brain injury. He explained that it was so inspirational working with the team. It was not inspirational that the athletes are running around, but instead what is inspirational, is how they have overcome setbacks and continued to strive to move forward with resilience. On the team, they have a saying and a mantra that they follow:
They say it’s impossible
REMEMBER
It may be impossible for them but not for you.
Year 6 News
Mr Liam Flanagan, Year 6 Team Leader
Year 6 are currently, deeply immersed in pursuing their interests and inquiries into the history of art and how it has been able to connect communities from different parts of the world. In our Global Changemakers Domain the boys are learning how art has the ability to connect people from around the globe and speaks a universal language. We look forward to showcasing their CoSpaces Task and related art work.
On Monday 11 November we remembered those who died or suffered for Australia’s cause in all wars and armed conflict at our Prep School Remembrance Day Assembly. We observed one minute's silence and reflected on the sacrifices men and women made and prayed for their families.

Sports News
From the Head of Knox Sports and Aquatic Academy
Mr Martin Haywood
Readers may have sensed some excitement around the results and pre season form of our Water Polo squads. The program has come a long way over a short period of time and last Saturday was another sign that the program, the coaches and the players are on the verge of something special. The players are committed and working as hard as anyone - deserving much credit. Scots has traditionally been the bench mark and won titles year after year and Knox had never beaten Scots at first grade level. Our team on Saturday turned the tables as won a thriller 12 goals to 11 and remain unbeaten. Our Seconds had a draw whilst the performance of the weekend was our Under 16s - defeating Scots 16 goals to 3. Well done everyone on a great start to the season!
