Headmaster's Column
Mr Scott James
Every day people all over the world share several universal experiences, and the most common one of these is facing challenges and making decisions. Life is made up of choices.
The way life unfolds, with its twists and turns, starts and stops, presents us with crossroads. During these times, we have the freedom to choose our direction. We are not powerless as we go through life; we have a choice.
Just think of how many events in history would never have occurred if someone did not make the choice to do something different, unknown, unproved or un-experienced?

Prep School News
From the Head of the Preparatory School
Mrs Sue Floro
And just like that, they’re all back on site! It’s all of the little things that we’ve missed. The noise - a campus without boys is so eerily quiet and somehow just not right; the endless handball negotiations and justifications; the ‘good mornings’ and ‘good afternoons’; the smiles and most, most importantly, the laughter. It’s all back! And whilst our, ‘Pull your socks up’ has become, ‘Not too close’, we can live with that!
All we need now is to hear the click clack of the footy boots as the boys come off the oval after training ... and we will get to hear that lovely noise next week, when after school training resumes.
K-2 Happenings
Mrs Chris Gray, K-2 Coordinator
Our value this week is Faith and the importance of love and laughter in our lives. Each day for the past three months, the dynamic duo of Reverends Tim and Peter have 'Rev’d' the staff up with stories to inspire us and provide strength. Pets, both new and old, have centred in many of our lives whilst being at home, so I thought I would share this particular piece with you. Thank you to Reverend Peter for allowing me to share it with you.
Kindergarten News
Mrs Mary-Mae Burton, Kindergarten Team Leader
One of Kindergarten’s favourite parts of the day is reading the InitiaLit (our reading program) storybook. Not only is it a precious and enjoyable experience sharing quality literature together, it is important in developing literacy and oral language skills. Whilst we have continued to share the storybooks online, nothing compares to sharing a book together in person. It has been so wonderful this week to settle back and share a storybook together, examining the illustrations up close and reacting to the story with each other.
Year 1 News
Miss Nadine Smith, Year 1 Team Leader
Welcome back Year 1! It was so lovely seeing happy, smiling faces, hearing the laughter and feeling the excitement on Monday morning. The boys were so excited to be back in their classrooms and seeing their friends. It was lovely having all our students back and excited to resume face-to-face learning together.
Year 2 News
Miss Sarah Beaumont-Jones, Year 2 Team Leader
The Year 2 boys have been thoroughly enjoying being back at school over the last few days! Over the past week, they have been working extremely hard to complete their National Geographic Kids Magazine. It has been wonderful to see all students applying the knowledge that they have acquired throughout our Knoxigations Inquiry Unit. This week, Year 2 eagerly began completing their Minecraft EDU project which has provided ample opportunity for boys to delve deeply into the negative impact that human activity is having on their chosen ecosystem.
Year 3 News
Mr Glenn Stephenson, Year 3 Team Leader
Much to the delight of teachers, many parents and hopefully all boys, the Year 3 students returned to the Prep School on a full-time basis this week. Knowing that each and every one of the 94 Year 3 boys were finally given the opportunity to do so truly brought a smile to the faces of the staff. As a Year 3 Team, we hope that all students enjoyed the nature of the online teaching and learning recently provided by the teachers, although nothing can replicate the face-to-face experience we now gladly return to. Hearing real noise from 8-9 year old boys, both in the classroom and the playground, has never been more satisfying ... a sentence I never thought I would utter as a teacher!
Year 4 News
Mr Jared Rastall, Year 4 Team Leader
On-site learning
It was wonderful to have the boys back in their usual classrooms today and to hear them working together on their ‘Operation Colonise Mars’ proposals. We would very much appreciate it if all boys could please bring a pair of headphones that they can keep on campus. In the event that we have some boys working from home, it will allow our boys at school to easily connect with them through Zoom for this group task.
Year 5 News
Mrs Tammy Paterson, Year 5 Team Leader
Stories of the World and Its People
This week the boys begin our new Knoxigation inquiry within the domain 'Stories of the World and Its People'. Students travel through time to uncover the stories of people, past and present. The focus of the inquiry is the impact of the discovery of gold on Australia’s identity; how gold changed Australia and furthermore, the different perspectives of those involved in the time of the gold rush. We also look at identity and how the Australian identity has changed and how it is viewed today.
Year 6 News
Mr Liam Flanagan, Year 6 Team Leader
The Year 6 staff are looking forward to seeing the boys back at school this week and enjoying some more face-to-face time with them. We would like to commend the boys on their efforts in learning online. We truly appreciate the hard work and dedication they showed in an ever changing online landscape. You should be incredibly proud of your son’s efforts. As we begin to return to school on a more permanent basis please ensure that your son has the correct full winter uniform, shoes polished and appropriate haircut. The boys will also need to begin to bring back to school any items which are required from home, most notably their iPad and charger, any books they took home with them and their novels for Literature Study. Please note that for any students who are remaining at home there will be work set through Google Classroom and a Zoom with myself at 8.10am, followed by their class teacher at 8.20am. Specialist teachers will also post any work relevant to their subject area on their Google Classroom.

Scholastic Book Club
Scholastic Book Club order Issue 4 will close 6 June. The students will receive the catalogue when they return to school this week. No cash or order forms are to be returned to school. Please order online using the LOOP payment system. If you require assistance, please contact the staff in the 3-6 Library.
Musical Notes
Mrs Rebeccah Morris, Miss Ali Irwin and Mr Ashley George
Ensembles Week 5 and 6
As the boys begin to come back to school full time in Week 5, there will be no ensembles on Wednesday, Thursday or Friday in Week 5 and there will be no ensembles at all in Week 6. This is both to allow the boys to get back in to normal school routine, and also ensure that their health and safety is taken in to consideration when playing their instruments. We hope all Ensembles will resume in Weeks 7 or 8.
Sports News
From the Head of Knox Sports and Aquatic Academy
Mr Martin Haywood
Its great to see all the boys back on campus as well as a number of opportunities opening up for our students around sport with some easing and relaxation of restrictions. Still a way to go to get a winter season up and running but there are glimmers of hope and, best of all, the boys are absolutely loving their afternoon sport and staying fit and positive.
Whilst there will be no Saturday sport or competition through to end of Term 2, we have taken the opportunity to run a speed and fitness session at Gillespie each Saturday from 8am. This session holds many opportunities to possibly gain some speed, build fitness, enjoy a healthy start to the weekend, dusting of the 'cobwebs' and put your name in front of Knox Athletic selectors for Term 3 selection. A great opportunity so please encourage your boy(s) to come along and enjoy a good workout.
Text for the Week
The Lord is my light and my salvation; Whom shall I fear?
The Lord is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?
