Mr Scott James

Digital technology
A significant challenge over the next ten years is the continued acceleration of social and technological change. Technology is no longer a separate strand of learning, rather, an integrated tool. Supporting young people to become critical and ethical users of technology will continue to be an important consideration for Knox.

Given that students will increasingly become creators of digital content rather than mere consumers of knowledge requires the School to ensure we develop the capacity to exercise responsible digital citizenship. Students need to be able to engage confidently and positively with digital technology in order to effectively participate in an increasingly globalised society and communicate respectfully with others.

Young people will continue to develop digital and media fluency that is already in many cases surpassing that of the teachers who are educating them. In an age of global connectivity and opportunity, we should not only focus on the use of technology in student learning, but the potential to harness the benefits of technology more effectively to provide the flexibility needed to deliver a broad curriculum that is relevant to all students.

Mrs Sue Floro

I do love a good swimming carnival - and yesterday we had two! Congratulations to Burns House on their convincing victory in taking out the points score. It was a record breaking meet, with seven of our swimming records falling! Congratulations to Finn Morton, Lukas Dunn and Joseph Kim for their record breaking performances, with particular mention to Joseph, who broke five records on the day. Whilst we are eagerly looking forward to the next level of representation for all of our swimmers, the real highlight of the day was the outstanding level of participation from all of our boys, and their support for one another. Congratulations all on a wonderful event!

It was fabulous to finally have our sporting fixtures go ahead last Saturday, for the first time this year. Sport is in full swing now, with an invitational carnival at PLC last Friday for our swimmers and sports training on the oval each afternoon.

Thank you for sharing your evening with us last night and making important connections with your son’s teacher and his friends' parents. Kellie Edwards, a psychologist and mindfulness teacher writes about being mindfully grateful and making the choice to spend as many moments as possible noticing what's good about your day, your surroundings, your life, your family and yourself.

Thank you to all the parents and carers who were able to attend the Parent Information evening. We hope it was informative and a fun, interactive event, learning about the Seesaw app for those of you who have not used it before. Seesaw is an online journal and a great way to share your son’s work and school happenings with you.

This week we have our K-2 Parent Information Evening on Tuesday 18 February beginning at 6pm. The Year 2 Team look forward to meeting you all. Over the first few weeks, the boys have been inquiring into ‘Stories of the past shape our future’. We have formulated our wonderings based on the finding out stage of our big idea and now we are looking into our local Ku-ring-gai area. Please ask your sons what they can share with you about what was here before Knox.

2B will be holding their assembly this Thursday afternoon at 2pm in the K-2 Void. We hope to see you there!

Year 3 News

Mr Glenn Stephenson, Year 3 Team Leader

The annual Years 3-6 House Swimming Carnival was held yesterday at the Senior School and once again proved to be a great success. It was particularly pleasing to see the level of participation and House spirit on display amongst all the Year 3 boys, many of whom proudly represented their House for the very first time. I would also like to thank those parents and guardians who were able to attend the event in support of the boys.

We are well and truly into the swing of Term 1 now and I am pleased to see all Year 5 boys have returned to school. Our boys are adjusting to the pace of Stage 3 and my team are encouraged by the way we have began. This was a busy week leading into camp. We are really looking forward to getting to know the boys better at camp, where the new/old boy concept seems to evaporate.

Another week has passed as Year 6 continue their journey in their final year of the Prep School. The boys have had an excellent week of learning and are beginning to really delve deeply into their Knoxigations unit on Natural Disasters. The boys have had time with Scope I.T who are showing the boys how to use their micro:bits to create different types of Natural Disaster detection systems. I encourage the boys to begin to think about a particular natural disaster that is of interest to them as they move towards an independent inquiry on a disaster of their choosing. We are really excited about the work the boys have been producing and we look forward to their work on their independent inquiry.

Mr Martin Haywood

Congratulations to everyone that contributed to another brilliant day of summer sport here at the School over the weekend. Some amazing results against Trinity have put a number of teams in a great position to push for CAS Premierships over the coming weeks – but, more importantly, was seeing just how far some teams have progressed since the early part of the season. Our coaches have done an amazing job and the trust our players have in our programs is extremely satisfying. Also on show over the weekend was our new Tartan Army. I have no doubt they contributed to the historic win in the Great Hall for our Firsts and Seconds Basketball. A great initiative from our Year 12 group that has the whole school involved and who are keen to get to as many events as possible - last Saturday was a great start.

It all started on Friday night with three Senior School boys receiving CIS awards for their performances in 2019. Joshua Collett (Swimming), Joseph Hamson (Swimming) and William Hopkins (AFL) all received awards and recognition from CIS, up against so many talented athletes in the Independent School system - this is an outstanding effort. We also had two Old Boys recognised, Nicholas Boyd and Liam Gorman, (both OKG19) for their efforts.
