Headmaster's Column
Mr Scott James
It has been wonderful to start welcoming students back to our campuses this week so we can get on with the business of learning on campus.
I think it would be fair to say that many students have discovered a renewed enthusiasm for education and their School. I would suggest many have craved this reconnection after their previous, less sociable routine. I visited our three campuses on Monday, and the excitement and joy radiating from our students was uplifting.
I’m sure our younger students were a little apprehensive returning to school, but our teachers have been phenomenal in making sure they feel safe and secure upon arrival.

Prep School News
From the Head of the Preparatory School
Mrs Sue Floro
Everything old is new again!
So it has been this week as our boys have begun returning to campus with their year groups. I’m not sure who was more excited, the boys seeing their friends for the first time in a while, or the teachers seeing their boys. The excitement was certainly palpable! The renewal of friendships, the swapping of stories, the opportunity to connect in person with those who they learn with each day. It has been lovely to hear the stories of reconnection by the teachers, who are equally happy to excited time with your sons face to face.
K-2 Happenings
Mrs Chris Gray, K-2 Coordinator
Integrity is choosing courage over comfort; choosing what is right over what is fun, fast, or easy; and choosing to practice our values rather than simply professing them.
Brene Brown
Our Knox value this week is Integrity. Integrity is the basis of social harmony and action. Our boys develop integrity when we build their moral vocabulary, respond appropriately to their behaviour and inspire them to believe in themselves.
Kindergarten News
Mrs Mary-Mae Burton, Kindergarten Team Leader
Monday was such an exciting day as we welcomed back Kindergarten! It was so lovely to see all the boys arriving with happy, smiling faces eager to see their friends and teachers. The atmosphere was exhilarating, filled with lots of chatter and laughter, as life was returned to our K-2 Building.
Year 1 News
Miss Nadine Smith, Year 1 Team Leader
Last week was another great week of collaboration and cooperation between home and school. I would like to thank our parents for their continued support of the boys' learning, especially supporting them with their home learning tasks and the use of technology. The Year 1 team are excited to be welcoming the boys back to school over the coming weeks. We really miss the children and cannot wait to see them in person.
Year 2 News
Miss Sarah Beaumont-Jones, Year 2 Team Leader
The Year 2 Teachers are extremely excited to see your son on-site tomorrow! We can’t wait to hear their laughter on the playground and their footsteps throughout the K-2 Centre. Please be assured that all possible measures are being put into place to ensure a safe and hygienic return to school for all. A reminder for all boys to listen carefully to their class briefing this afternoon to ensure that they have all relevant information prior to their arrival at school tomorrow morning.
Year 3 News
Mr Glenn Stephenson, Year 3 Team Leader
I trust that all of the Year 3 mothers enjoyed a very special Mother’s Day this past Sunday! I have no doubt that your son had some lovely surprises planned for you and hope that all mums had a relaxing and well-deserved day of being spoilt and appreciated for all the daily sacrifices which you make.
Year 4 News
Mr Jared Rastall, Year 4 Team Leader
On-site learning
The Year 4 team were excited to see the boys yesterday on campus. The excitement was definitely palpable as many boys got to see each other face-to-face for the first time in several weeks. Congratulations to all those boys who received their pen licence; what a wonderful way to welcome them back onto campus. Hopefully more can be presented again next week. We look forward to seeing all the boys next Thursday at school.
Year 5 News
Mrs Tammy Paterson, Year 5 Team Leader
This week the Year 5 team are counting down the days until Friday. We are really looking forward to seeing the boys at school. Please remember to read the information carefully in regards to the return to school process so that your son is aware of where to go and what to do when he arrives at school. We have PE on Friday so the boys will be wearing their sports uniform.
Year 6 News
Mr Liam Flanagan, Year 6 Team Leader
We are most excited to have the boys back on-site with us this Thursday! The boys have been absolutely fabulous with their remote learning but there is nothing like hearing those footsteps coming back through Ewan House and I hope the boys are as excited as we are to be back on-site this week. There will be some slight differences in the way in which the boys will set up for the day and your son’s class teacher will talk your sons through these changes the day prior to the boys returning. If you have any questions about our return to school on Thursday, please email me.

2020 Premier’s Reading Challenge (PRC)
Congratulations to the boys who have completed the 2020 PRC. We have had over 190 students complete the challenge thus far! What an amazing start and fabulous effort to all the boys who have been working from home.

Musical Notes
Mrs Rebeccah Morris, Miss Ali Irwin and Mr Ashley George
Prep Musical Ensembles, Weeks 3-5
For Weeks 3 to 5, as boys begin to return to campus, all Ensembles will remain online via Zoom. Boys coming to school on their rehearsal day are exempt from attending the Zoom rehearsals on that day so that they can settle in to school and socialise with their peers. For example, if your son is in Year 5 and has Prep Orchestra on Friday in Week 3, he does not need to log in to the rehearsal. All other boys who are at home are to Zoom in at their normal times for rehearsals.
Sports News
From the Head of Knox Sports and Aquatic Academy
Mr Martin Haywood
This last week, Europe celebrated the 75th anniversary of Victory in Europe (VE) Day - 8 May to be precise. VE Day is time to reflect on the enormous sacrifice and tragedy of World War II.
Eleven members of the eighteen boys who comprised the first Knox rugby team of 1924 served in World War II. Three boys would ultimately receive the Military Cross for gallantry - Clive Baylis, James Hendry and John Taylor. Sadly, three boys would lose their lives while serving - Carl Fisher, James Hendry (who was a recipient of the Military Cross) and John Riley.
I would encourage those who have some time when visiting the School, to make the effort to visit our Archives. It is a fascinating area of the School which holds many highlights and wonderful stories of our School's rich history.
Text for the Week
“Be merciful to me, O God, be merciful to me, for in you my soul takes refuge; in the shadow of your wings I will take refuge, till the storms of destruction pass by.
