Mr Scott James

Welcome Back
I would like to extend my warmest wishes on the beginning of the new academic year. Let it bring new knowledge and discoveries, as well as new challenges. Welcome to all of the new families joining our community, and of course, welcome back returning families as well.

In December, our community experienced great sorrow with the passing of Matthew Hollander (Y8) and Berend (known as Ben) Hollander (Y10), along with their parents Martin Hollander (OKG89) and Barbara Hollander, whilst on holiday in New Zealand. As adults, we have difficulty explaining such a tragedy. Even with the wisdom of years, we come up short in understanding such loss of life. We cannot for one minute imagine the ongoing pain and sorrow endured by family members and loved ones.

What we can and will do as a school is remember Matthew and Ben and continue to tell their stories so that ensuing generations of Knox boys know their names, who they are and that they were loved and lost too soon. We can ensure that Matthew and Ben, along with those who felt their loss most keenly, remain in the hearts and minds of our community, forever.

We are often troubled, but not crushed; sometimes in doubt, but never in despair; there are many enemies, but we are never without a friend; and though badly hurt at times, we are not destroyed.
2 Corinthians 4: 8-9

This tragedy shook our School community to its core, but it’s this very core that provides the strength to help us grieve, and ultimately heal. We must always remember that the strength of our community lies in our people.

Vale Matthew and Ben.

From the Head of the Preparatory School

knox/bios/2019/08/23/Sue-Floro.jpg

Mrs Sue Floro

A warm welcome to 2020 for all of our families, existing and new, after what can only be described as a difficult end to 2019 and a challenging start to the new year, with bushfires, natural disasters and then the coronavirus impacting many thousands of Australians, and people globally.

In times of difficulty, there are always stories of bravery, selflessness, and service to those who are impacted, by those who understand their ability to make a difference; to positively impact those who have been affected, and there were so many of these stories to start our year. At Prep, our 2020 focus is kindness – kindness towards all people, at all times, in our thoughts, words and actions. We understand that this is hard! As adults, we find it challenging to master the art of kindness, and it is something to be mastered – identified, understood and consciously practised, until it becomes part of who we are.

Kindness in conjunction with compassion and integrity have been flowing through the K-2 Centre during our first days back at school. We will continue to plant seeds of kindness this year and provide examples for families to nourish this value at home as a K-6 focus.

Mr Martin Haywood

Welcome to the Knox Sports and Aquatic Academy for 2020. It has been a wonderful start to the year with many positive experiences over the break as well as meeting all of our new students in Week 1. Our Year 7s have enjoyed summer trials, a House activity afternoon, Swim trials for 2020 then more summer sport trials over the weekend. Years 8-12 also had the chance to trial for the Knox Swim Championships on Saturday in front of a record turnout.

Knox Prep students have also settled into the year with their own trials on a very warm Saturday and cannot wait for the start of their own summer sport season starting this weekend.

The holidays were packed and following is a snapshot of all that the School offered and enjoyed through the break.
