Headmaster's Column
Mr Scott James
Gratitude
This week, as we farewell our Year 12 boys, it’s timely for us to reflect on the value of our community.
As a school community we are indebted to so many people for the incredible opportunities which are available for our students – our wonderful parent volunteers who give up their time, our committed and tireless staff and our ‘Old Boys’ who ‘give back’.
Our school community and the lives of the boys who graduating from Knox this week, are richer because of the contributions of so many of you. Thank you for all that you do.

Handwriting Course Term 4
Rebecca Papageorgiou, Learning Enhancement
Each term, Knox holds a Handwriting Course designed to help improve the speed, accuracy and neatness of students’ handwriting, reducing tension and fatigue when writing for long periods of time. In 2019 the classes will be held by Ms Lisa Norton, an occupational therapist, who specialises in the development of skills necessary for handwriting and the remediation of handwriting difficulties.
We are now filling places for our Term 4, 2019 course.

Fees In Advance Program
For many years the School has offered a ‘fees in advance’ program to enable increased flexibility of such payments. The program is attractive for many reasons, enabling parents to make lump sum payments for years ahead which attract discounts to the scheduled fees.

Prep School News
From the Head of the Preparatory School
Mrs Sue Floro
And so ends another term, this one characterised by the usual hustle and bustle that we associate with the myriad of opportunities that our boys enjoy. This term has seen us:
• concentrate on our values, and continue to learn that all that we say, do and think reflects our understanding of, and commitment to, our School values of integrity, wisdom, compassion, faith and courage
• learn so much – not only content and knowledge based, but about relationships, making connections and applying our knowledge in new and innovative ways
• complete another season of winter sport, with all that comes with that – wins, draws and losses; successes, challenges and disappointments
• soar to new levels of excellence in musical performance, whether that be instrumental concerts in the auditorium or on the national stage at ASBOF where we quite literally swept the pool!
• striving for excellence in classroom activities and further cementing our understanding of the relationship between sticking to action plans and achieving our goals
• observe student voice in action – boys caring about their world, about causes they are supporting, and understanding their power to make a difference

A holiday is an opportunity to journey within. It is also a chance to chill, to relax. It is when I switch on my rest mode.
Prabhas
Congratulations on supporting your son this term to rise to new challenges in the pursuit of new goals. Our K-2 Mini World Cup was a special way for parents to share in the energy of our boys as they celebrated kicking a ball, weaving around the opposition and trying to run their hardest in a game of Rugby. The Aquatics program this week has encouraged resilience as each boy has pushed himself to develop new skills.

Term 3 has proved to be another action-packed time at the Prep!
Year 1 News
Mrs Emma Donaldson, Year 1 Team Leader
Sound is a form of energy that powers and enhances our world. Throughout the first three weeks of the Knoxigations Unit of Inquiry ‘Tinkering Towards Tomorrow’ the boys have been exploring the impact sound has on our world. After exploring how and why sound is so important, one of the students in Year 1 asked the question, “What if we couldn’t talk or hear?”
Year 3 News
Mr Glenn Stephenson, Year 3 Team Leader
What a term it has been! The past ten weeks have simply flown by and it is incredible to think about the various range of learning experiences and activities, both within and outside of the classroom, which the boys have taken part in.

Show courage in your learning
Throughout the course of your son’s education, he will encounter similar themes and topics that will be approached with increasing complexity relative to his age and purpose of the task. A perfect example is writing. Each year he will be exposed to informational, persuasive and imaginative writing; however, the stylistic features such as language and structure of each text does change and develop as his understanding does.
Year 6 News
Mr Liam Flanagan, Year 6 Team Leader
Well done to the boys as we come to the end of what has been a very busy term. The Year 6 boys have definitely earned a well-deserved rest over the next two weeks and we look forward to their fresh-faced return as they commence their final term in the Prep School.

Thank you to Evette Hopkins and Nina Rich as well as the other Year 6 parents who helped in the organisation of Grandparents' Day last Thursday. From all accounts, grandparents and special guests enjoyed a lovely morning being shown around the Year 6 classrooms and had a delicious morning tea as well.
Sports News
From the Head of Knox Sports and Aquatic Academy
Mr Martin Haywood
Congratulations to all athletes that participated at the CAS Track & Field Championships for 2019 last Thursday evening at Homebush. In front of a loyal crowd of Knox supporters, well led by our outgoing Year 12 students, we are extremely proud of the team and the progress they have made. Knox finished third and just fell short to St Aloysius’ College and Trinity Grammar. This event is one night where the boys are racing and competing as a team and not necessarily against the clock and we finished nearly 50 points ahead of where we did in 2018. A real noticeable from within this group was the leadership from the Year 12 boys and a real culture of hard work and respect for one another is developing and will be built upon for 2020 and beyond.
Text for the Week
But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength.
They will soar high on wings like eagles.
They will run and not grow weary.
They will walk and not faint
