Gratitude
It can be a little bit easy to take things for granted here at Knox. The School campuses are quite picturesque. The lawns and gardens, the facilities and our sporting fields all contribute to the wonderful surrounds of our great School. Although, the grounds and buildings are meaningless without people and the School is lucky to have a community of staff who make the School alive and vibrant.

The Property Department, the catering and canteen staff, the cleaners … take a moment to consider what the School would be like without them. Knox would be a very different place.

As we commence the new term, I would like to acknowledge the above staff for keeping the school clean and safe. They know better than anyone else that, at times, some of us can mistreat the facilities and take things for granted. To the admin and support staff, we thank them for keeping things running smoothly so teachers can concentrate on teaching boys. To our counsellors, we thank them for listening and supporting members of our community. Without their service, some may find coming to school a challenge.

These various groups and departments provide support in a variety of ways. Besides teachers, mentors, coaches, music tutors and so on, additional staff are here to assist boys and to make their schooling the most positive experience it can be. Let’s not forget this as we commence Term 4.

The best way students can show their gratitude is to make the most of the opportunity they have been given by attending Knox and to finish 2020 in the strongest way possible.

Handwriting Course

Ms Rebecca Papageorgiou

Each term, Knox holds a Handwriting Course designed to help improve the speed, accuracy and neatness of students’ handwriting, reducing tension and fatigue when writing for long periods of time. In 2020 the classes will be held by Ms Lisa Norton, an occupational therapist, who specialises in the development of skills necessary for handwriting and the remediation of handwriting difficulties.

We are now filling places for our Term 4, 2020 course.

Our AMEB Rockschool Exams will occur later in the term.

We wish all performers happy preparation and a wonderful exam experience.

Did you know that boys love being read to, despite their age?

Research consistently shows that children of all ages experience significant gains when they are read to and that parents and teachers modelling reading is an important factor in encouraging young people to read. Reading is not only a relaxing and pleasurable pastime, but it forms the basis of all learning and academic success is closely associated with the ability to read well.

Welcome to our last term for the year!

During the holidays I was in touch with a number of organisations who are seeking to support the increased needs in our wider community. These organisations reported of families impacted by loss of jobs and some who are struggling to make ends meet.

This term we will undertake the following planned three key annual events:

• School participation in National Recycling Week
• Providing Christmas food hampers for families in need
• Providing Christmas gifts for the Children who are supported by STARRTS

All donations may be dropped off to the SAOs.

Fees in Advance Program

For many years the School has offered a ‘fees in advance’ program to enable increased flexibility of such payments. The program is attractive for many reasons, enabling parents to make lump sum payments for years ahead which attract discounts to the scheduled fees. To qualify, upfront full year payments must be made for a minimum of one year and the payments must be made by 13 November in the year before your payment program begins. Payments will only be accepted by direct funds transfer or cheque (credit card or BPAY payments are not permitted for this program).

Details of the Fees in Advance Program can be found here on the Knox website. Alternatively, you might like to discuss this in confidence with Betty Fowler from the School’s Accounts Department on 9487 0442.

Welcome to Term 4!

There is always a lovely feel as the weather warms and the boys return to campus in their summer uniforms. The routines remain the same, but the days are longer and the football boots are exchanged for increasingly enormous cricket kits! Our boys do love their sport, and all of the gear that comes along with it. Our first round of Summer Sport takes place this coming Saturday and I know the boys are eager to get out there and put their skills into practice. A letter regarding COVID-19 practices specifically for Term 4 will be communicated later this week.

We welcome two new families to Prep for this last term of 2020. We know that our current boys and families will help them to settle in and feel a part of our Prep community.

Returning from school holidays is an exciting time for our boys as they share their adventures with their friends and staff. Active listening is a good way to improve your communication with your son and strengthen your relationship. It lets him know that you are interested in what he has to say.

Mr Martin Haywood

Welcome back, everyone. I hope you all enjoyed some magic weather and a nice break with family. A few important announcements were made over the break by the NSW Government and then followed up by the Associated Schools of NSW (CAS) regarding Term 4 and sport. I can confirm the following for Week 1, Term 4:

It will be up to each school to determine the capacity of venues and spectator numbers allowed in line with COVID-19 safe policy. Each school will have a different policy with regards to the number of spectators, so it will be important to carefully read the information sent to you about opposition schools each week (we will also email this to you).
