Mr Scott James

Welcome back and welcome to those families who have joined the Knox community for Semester 2. It is my hope that students are returning feeling replenished and with a growth mindset.

As we commence Term 3, I look forward to the resumption of sport, albeit with some modifications to manage safety and health requirements.

Again, I express my sincere thanks to parents and staff for the inspiring manner in which you have sought to make the best of a very different set of circumstances this year. A renewed sense of partnership between the School and home is just one of the lasting benefits of the year to date.

Recently, I was reading a book titled, ‘Inventing the Modern World’ (the true story of Thomas Edison). After I finished reading this particular book and learning more about Edison, I realised there is a positive message worth sharing.

Handwriting Course

Ms Rebecca Papageorgiou

Each term, Knox holds a Handwriting Course designed to help improve the speed, accuracy and neatness of students’ handwriting, reducing tension and fatigue when writing for long periods of time. In 2020 the classes will be held by Ms Lisa Norton, an occupational therapist, who specialises in the development of skills necessary for handwriting and the remediation of handwriting difficulties.

We are now filling places for our Term 3, 2020 course.

Social Justice

Mrs Helen Clarke, Head of Diversity, Justice and Stewardship

Operation Gratitude
Two of the key values of Knox Grammar School are compassion and courage.

We are developing a project to thank COVID-19 front line workers and send letters to those isolated in local Aged Care Facilities.

There will be a series of committees of students from Stage 4 and Stage 5 and Year 11 formed to coordinate Operation Gratitude. This is an opportunity for all students to participate in the Project and develop leadership and organisation skills. We aim to commence Week 1 of Term 3 and complete this by Week 3. Please see Year 11 students Ben Rothery and Seb Henriksen who are coordinating this important intiative or email Mrs Clarke for more information.

Mrs Sue Floro

A warm welcome back to Prep for Term 3! It has been lovely to chat with the boys about their holidays as they have arrived on campus each day this week, and to hear about their adventures over the break.

The 20-1 initiative, run by the Prep Eco-Monitors, under the guidance of Mr Hitchiner, has started strongly, and will be an excellent example of student action. All boys can contribute, just by disposing of their waste thoughtfully, and also in their endeavours to eat food at school that involves less packaging. Watch this space for updates throughout the semester!

Bounceback Parenting

It is such a treat to see each boy walk confidently into school with a warm smile and a story to share. They're developing their sense of self which is a reflection of their self esteem. Your tone of voice, your body language, and your every expression is absorbed by your son. Your words and actions as a parent affect their developing self-esteem more than anything else.

Term 3 Ensembles
All ensembles will resume as normal at the very start of Term 3. All rehearsals are on the same days and times as usual and are all back in our normal Ensemble rehearsal rooms. Boys need to remember to enter via the Billyard Gates between 7am and 7.15am and walk through the health check screening before coming down to the Music Building with their bag and instrument. If your son cannot make a rehearsal for whatever reason, please remember to email the Director of that ensemble to inform them of your son's absence.

Mr Martin Haywood

How exciting is it to be back playing sport this week and, for a lucky few, to have already started playing some trial games and competition in the holidays.

Welcome back everyone. I hope you all enjoyed a safe and relaxing holiday with family. With the easing of some COVID-19 restrictions on 1 July, we were able to offer some non compulsory training sessions across many sports, which was particularly beneficial for those starting some contact sport this term.

The Sports Academy is reluctant to look too far ahead with so much changing at such a rapid pace so please forgive us as we send out weekly updates. Sport certainly is going to look very different this weekend, however your support and understanding will go a long way to ensuring we all walk away safe and happy. Please take the time to read our correspondence each week as all schools have slight variations as to how each sport will look at each venue.
