Mr Scott James

Welcome back
As we have all commented, we are living in extraordinary times. Indeed, we are pioneering a whole new way of working, living and, of course, schooling. Without doubt, this has been one of the most unusual ‘holidays’ in memory, with social distancing rules, isolation and the cancellation of all travel resulting in a very different holiday experience at home.

The health and wellbeing of our community are of crucial importance to us. Over the last few weeks, there has been a great deal of discussion regarding COVID-19 and schools. While the health advice may change, Knox will continue to be vigilant to mitigate the risk to our community.

I would like to acknowledge the superb ongoing work of our dedicated teaching staff, wellbeing team and support and administration staff for all that they have done to ensure learning continues online. This work has continued throughout the holidays to ensure we are well prepared for Term 2.

Social Justice

Mrs Helen Clarke, Head of Diversity, Justice and Stewardship

Welcome to Term 2 – although our social restrictions are still in place, our work for Social Justice continues.

Thank you to all of the Knox students, parents and staff who have volunteered over the past few weeks. Boys delivered flyers alerting isolated residents of support from the Ku-ring-gai Neighbourhood Centre (KNC); visited small businesses to alert them to support Government initiatives; made friendly supportive phone calls to isolated residents; sorted and delivered food for those in need; supported local elderly who needed tasks such as their wheelie bins taken out each week and many of our Knox Pipe Band members played the pipes at local aged care facilities. A wonderful effort from the local community. Our sincere thanks to you all for your compassionate service.

Mrs Sue Floro

Welcome to Term 2! I do hope that our families have enjoyed their time together over the break. I’ve heard some wonderful stories of adventures happening in Knox Prep households. We certainly have some creative people in our community! It is always good to focus on the positives, before entertaining the aspects of our current environment that are not so positive, and one of the things I’ve enjoyed is a reorientation to family board games. I’ve learned that my family is made up of members who are overtly competitive, quietly competitive, or downright manipulative! However, I’ve also learned that there have been lots of laughs together and memories made, which I’m grateful for.

Term 2 learning has begun in earnest and our boys are clearly enjoying seeing their friends’ faces each morning, and interacting with their teachers. While we are not in the same room, holiday stories have been shared and anecdotes relayed. It is this connection to community that our boys are craving and we will continue to try initiatives to increase that interaction over the coming weeks.

The sharing of a cup of tea or coffee provides nourishment, creates comfort and puts all things at ease.

As a component of the boys’ Total Fitness within the School Values and initiatives to support these, we would like to invite you to bring a cup of tea or coffee to your loungeroom and share some time together each Friday morning. Positive Education focuses on specific skills to strengthen relationships, build positive emotions, enhance personal resilience, promote mindfulness and encourage a healthy lifestyle.

Mrs Mary-Mae Burton, Kindergarten Team Leader

It was lovely to see all the smiling faces of the Kindergarten boys dressed smartly in their winter uniforms on Tuesday. It is, of course, very different to how things would normally be as we continue remote learning. Despite not physically being together, we have an exciting term ahead.

Welcome back to Term 2. The Year 1 Team hope you all had a lovely Easter break, found time to relax and spend some quality time together as a family. I would like to take this opportunity to welcome Mr Hayden Gregory who will be teaching 1E for the remainder of the year. Mr Gregory is well known to the students and has been working closely with us throughout the year. We are very lucky to have him as member of our Year 1 Team. We also thank Mrs Donaldson for all that she has done for us in Term 1. At this stage, we are still awaiting the arrival of ‘Baby Donaldson’ and we wish her and Mr Donaldson all the best as they enter the exciting journey of parenthood.

Miss Sarah Beaumont-Jones, Year 2 Team Leader

It was wonderful to see all of the boys' smiling faces yesterday as we began Term 2 together on our remote learning platform. We hope that all families enjoyed a relaxing and restful holiday break and were able to use the time to build connections with those around them, including family, friends, grandparents and members of our community who might be in need. The Year 2 Team would like to again take this opportunity to thank parents for their flexibility, positivity and support of staff and students as we continue to embrace remote learning in these unprecedented times.

A warm welcome back to all our families on what will certainly be a busy, fast-paced Term 2. We are now in full swing with our second Knoxigations unit, ‘Colonisation: Impact, Change, Opportunity’ and it has been great to see the boys’ interest and excitement on learning what Britain was like in the 1700s.

Year 5 News

Mrs Tammy Paterson, Year 5 Team Leader

Welcome back. I cannot believe it is the start of Term 2! As you know, we will begin the term with an online learning model and we will communicate as things change. The boys will still be using the same link to access the Year 5 Online Learning Platform. We will start each day at 8.20am with a Year 5 whole grade Zoom, where the Year 5 team look forward to saying 'good morning' to all those faces on the screen. The boys then go into their individual class Zoom at 8.30am where they will receive the plan for the day. The Zoom codes can be found on the online learning platform as well as on Google classroom. On each Google classroom, the plan for day is also itemised each morning. The boys are getting used to the routine of starting their day with their diary by their side where the plan is established.

Mr Martin Haywood

I hope everyone enjoyed a safe and healthy Easter Break.

In such unprecedented circumstances I have been struck by the number of people participating in some form of safe, physical workout and this continues to remind my team of the importance that sport plays here at Knox. Whilst the boys are home and remote learning, the sports staff have been working to ensure we roll out a quality, worthwhile experience for our boys each week. We could not be more proud of what will be offered over the coming weeks online.

Please help us and ensure the boys know to click on to their classroom and complete their training session just as if they were here on campus and, most importantly, ensure they are set up and carry out each session in a safe manner. All parents and boys were sent communication during the break with their revised online training schedule and the safe training protocols. For the few that had difficulties opening up either document, they can be found here:
