YEAR 9 WEEK 2 TERM 3 2024

Year 9 Week 2 Term 3 2024

Hero Image

At this week’s Year Meeting, Mr Pittman spoke about the importance of physical and mental health for our students. It is crucial that our young men find balance in their lives, engaging in activities that keep them physically active and support their mental wellbeing. Encouraging regular exercise, a healthy diet, and open communication can make a significant difference in their overall health and happiness.

Ms Cowell discussed the importance of being open to learning from a multitude of people within our School community, particularly including those who may not be within our immediate social networks. By engaging with a diverse range of peers, students can broaden their perspectives, build empathy, and foster a more inclusive environment where everyone feels valued and respected.

On Monday 12 August, students have their second instalment from the Elevate team, who will be focusing on Memory Mnemonics. This session is aimed at upskilling students to increase their retention of knowledge. This is a practically based course and we hope that all students learn skills that they are able to implement to improve their autonomy over their learning.

On Thursday 8 August, the Middle Academy will be hosting Elephant Ed as a keynote speaker during our Academy Assembly. Elephant Ed’s vision is to create a world in which every person is empowered with the knowledge, skills and attitudes they need to make conscious, healthy and respectful choices about consent, relationships, and sexuality.

Also on Thursday next week (8 August), the Junior and Middle Academy will be supporting the Australian Olympians by allowing boys to wear a touch of ‘green and gold’ on top of their usual Winter Uniform. Boys will still need to wear their official school uniform, including school blazer, to and from school but are welcome to bring a scarf/jumper or any other touch of green and gold to wear during the day. We hope the boys can get into the spirit and support the Aussie Olympians!

Well done on another strong term of Chess in the NSWJCL competition. The Senior A and Junior A team went through without dropping a point which is a super achievement. This week, all three games will be at home against Central Coast Grammar today (Friday 2 August). Junior and Intermediate games will aim to start at 3.30pm.

Sport Newsletter Week 2, Term 3 2024

I hope everyone is enjoying the opportunity to watch some Olympics this week. There have been so many inspirational performances so far from our Australian athletes and I hope this serves as motivation for all youngsters out there to reach for the clouds and dream big. When you hear some of their personal stories, it really shows that absolutely anything can be achieved with the right attitude and support around the athlete.

William Yang (OKG16) was superb in the pool in the 100m freestyle and reached the semi finals whilst coming up in Week 2, we have a Knox representative on the track with Cameron McEntyre (OKG16) throwing the javelin. Good luck, Cam.

I love to ask children about prayer, and to hear them say “God answers prayer.” It’s a simple statement, but a profound truth. As we bring our prayers to God, we know that he is attentive and waiting to hear our prayers. Whether in times of joy, or times of challenge, God listens to our prayers with grace and understanding. He is attentive and ready to respond to our needs. .

In prayer, how wonderful it is to be able to listen and talk to our wonderful and glorious God, knowing his words and actions bring life and sustain us in all that we do. We are sometimes called to be patient, or perhaps we feel our prayers and requests aren’t hitting the mark, but we can be assured that God’s power and love are at work in us, every step of the way.

Grammarian Committee for 2024-25

Years 9, 10 and 11, 2025 – your call to make your mark on the School’s Centenary Yearbook is here! Bring your fresh ideas to the Grammarian, the Knox School annual.

We are looking for new members to join the committee for the 2024 edition. This invitation is open to students currently in Years 8-10.

Academy Honour Awards and Colours are awarded for commitment to this co-curricular activity. If the fields of photography, writing, interviewing, design and/or editing interest you, submit a brief written application and answer the following questions:

• The cover of the Centenary Yearbook will be a standout feature. If you had to choose one event or activity from 2024 for the cover, what would it be and why?
• What specific skill(s) can you bring to the Grammarian Committee?
• Summarise your favourite House activity in one word.

Please feel free to attach examples of your work, where applicable.

Applications close Friday 16 August. Interviews will be held after this date. For all applications and/or enquiries, please email Mrs Aroyan, Publications Manager.

Our overseas exchange students are settling in well ... and feeling the cold weather!

Congratulations to the boys who were presented their participation certificates from the Big Science Competition.

This week at Year Meeting, the Mentor groups randomly picked a country to follow for our own 'in house' Olympic Mentor Competition. Good luck to all.
