Year 11 Team 2024
We have seen the boys continue to present their best selves around the campus this week.
One of the many things that we appreciate about the boys in the Class of 2025 is the commitment they demonstrate to their areas of interest. We know how much they value their passions, and the time and energy they give to these activities is truly impressive. For many of them though, leading up to the Preliminary Exam Block, they are finding that they need to strike more of a balance between the different facets of their life. We congratulate the boys who have been proactive in this space, organising meetings with their mentors and us, as their Team Leaders, to gain some additional advice on how to approach the exam period. The seriousness in which they are preparing themselves is heartening to see and we know that they will use this as an important learning experience leading into Year 12.

Senior Academy Team 2024

We continue to remind the boys of how they need to work right through to the end of this term, to ensure they achieve their personal best in their suite of subjects.
Whilst working towards their Year 11 exams, it’s also very important that students keep these examinations in perspective and recognise that they are not defined by their grades; each and every student is valued as a wonderful young man, each with their own talents, strengths and ability to contribute meaningfully to our community. We only ask that the boys work towards their personal best and look to support one another through the ups and downs they will experience during this journey.
Thursday 29 August and Friday 30 August are timetabled as study days. The boys don’t have to come to school if they opt to study from home. The teachers will be available on these days and boys can arrange to meet them.

Sport Newsletter Week 3, Term 3 2024
Last week, Knox Basketball hosted NBA Assistant Coach for the Utah Jazz, Mr Evan Bradds, for our Knox Basketball program and winter Basketball program. As many as 84 students participated in the clinic over two days and it was a fantastic experience for both students and coaching staff. It is the second year in a row that Knox have hosted an NBA Assistant Coach. Last year we hosted Mr Charles Klask of the Denver Nuggets. Knox is the only school in NSW to host these NBA Coaches. We thank Evan for his time and for putting our students through a master class training session.
Next week, as one season draws to an end, we transition straight into the summer season with Week 4 predominantly being an “information week”. This is followed by a regular week of summer training in Week 5. Week 4 will also be another opportunity for boys to consider Athletics (no doubt, many are inspired from the Olympics). Boys can join our Knox Track and Field team for Term 3 – an amazing sport filled with so much variety and fitness to consider where boys can run, jump, and throw.More information can be found here, through the Knox app, or email Ms Hemsworth.
For more on sport this week, please read the Sport Newsletter linked above.

Careers
As the end of Year 11 is fast approaching, it is important for students to start to consider their career interests and options after school.
The final years of senior school present many opportunities for life after school. These years are not only about the HSC and the ATAR, but also about applications for university early entry schemes, post-school cadetships, internships and co-op scholarships offered by many universities. Year 11 is a great time for students to consider and to engage in activities in order to position themselves ready for these opportunities when they arise in Year 12.
Here are the slides to a presentation that I delivered back in Term 1. Please use these slides not only as a refresher, but as a reminder of the importance that the final Year 11 results have on university early entry applications.
Universities have opened registration to their upcoming Open Days. I suggest students attend these Open Days this year. Open Days are typically held when Knox conduct HSC Trial Exams so attending Open Days next year when students are in Year 12 will be difficult. For the list of university Open Days, please click here.
Please email Mrs Gomez if you have any questions.

Chaplaincy Team 2024

The image of an eagle soaring high in the sky is one that evokes many emotions and represents different meanings across a variety of cultures. The effortlessness of their ability to soar through the sky makes them remarkable viewing, either in person or on a David Attenborough documentary! Eagles are known for their ability to use strong winds and updrafts to soar above storms which helps them to avoid dangerous conditions. This provides a powerful image which can be seen in Isaiah and highlights the immeasurable strength that God provides his people.
As the famous piece ‘You Raise Me Up’ suggests, God is with us through the storms of life and it is through him that we can rise above the challenges that face us. As an eagle spreads its wings and is supported by the wind, so too can we lean into God and allow him to support us. In the good and bad weather, we are reminded that the Lord is our strength and he will raise us up to soar like eagles.

Text of the Week
But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.
Isaiah 40:31

Year 12 BBQ Convenors Required
We are looking for two parents willing to take on the Year 12 BBQ Convenor role, commencing in Term 4. The Year 12 BBQ is held each Wednesday for Year 12 students only, in order to raise funds to subsidise decorations for the Valedictory Dinner.
The convenor role is a weekly commitment (each Wednesday from 11.30am-2pm). The current convenors are happy to meet with the new convenors to discuss what all is involved. The main role of the convenors is to manage the weekly roster of parent volunteers, purchasing drinks and sauces, ordering the food each week through the kitchen, assembling and selling the burgers or hotdogs on the day. No cooking is involved, as the School’s caterers do all the cooking.
It would be great to have two convenors to share the load. If you are interested, please contact Megan Bailey, Head of Community Relations, Events and Communications.
Volunteers Needed
The Diverse Learning Department needs volunteers to read and/or write for some of our senior students in the upcoming HSC Trial exams, End of Year 11 Exams and the HSC Exams.
Volunteers can be parents, grandparents, or recently graduated students.
As a writer, it would be your task to act as an extension of the student by writing as they dictate their response to an examined question. As a reader, it would be your task to read the examined question aloud for clarity. As a reader/writer you would be asked to perform both tasks for the one student.
You may like to volunteer your time to cover the whole exam period, part of the exam period or you may prefer to be an emergency scribe for those inevitable sporting injuries the day before an exam. Either way, we would love to hear from you. Availability during the working week is obviously paramount.
If you would like to consider assisting the school in this very meaningful way, please contact Rebecca Papageorgiou in the Diverse Learning Department on 9487 0470 for further information.
