YEAR 10 WEEK 5 TERM 3 2024

Year 10 Week 5 Term 3 2024

Hero Image

With the halfway point of term approaching, we would like to encourage all parents to have conversations with their sons about how they are tracking, particularly as assessments continue to come and the sport seasons change over. The midway point in every term is a good opportunity to take stock of our routines and habits and make any adjustments that will benefit us in the long term.

In Year Meeting this week, we heard from a number of exchange students who have been visiting Knox over the last few weeks. It takes an incredible amount of courage as a young man to travel across the world, join a new school and take on the new challenges that come with cultural and language differences. We would like to thank the students and families that have hosted and wish all our exchange students well during their remaining time at Knox.

This week also marks the last week of the Pymble/Knox Social Cup. Running over the last three weeks, some 100 boys have participated in the program, forming connections with their peers from Pymble Ladies’ College across a range of sports and service activities. The highlight of the program has been seeing our boys take up the opportunity to give back to their community and, in the process, form a stronger sense of self and understanding of their potential to support and drive change in the world around them. What can be a simple task - cooking a meal for someone less fortunate or knitting a scarf for those in need - can make a real difference to someone’s context.

Over the last three weeks, students from the Class of 2026, alongside their peers from Pymble Ladies’ College (PLC), have been participating in the Pymble/Knox Social Cup. We could not be prouder of the boys for the way they conducted themselves as hosts when at Knox, and also for the respect they showed when visiting PLC. At Knox, the afternoons have been filled with fun games of mixed Netball, Volleyball and Basketball. It was great to watch the two schools playing in mixed teams and learning some new skills.

At PLC, the students combined to help out at the After School Hours Centre, cooked for a local charity and completed some knitting. Once again, the conduct of the boys was exceptional and we could witness first-hand the positive memories being made.

None of this would have been possible without the hard work of Chris Costaganna and Caitlin Illek. As an Academy Team, we would like to thank them for the organisation that went into this and the sacrifice of their own personal time to supervise the program. Their selflessness in ensuring this program ran, providing the boys with such a fantastic experience, should be celebrated.

Sport Newsletter Week 5, Term 3 2024

The CAS Track and Field season has officially kicked off. This past weekend, our students competed in their first internal meet at Knox, showcasing their skills in running, jumping, and throwing whilst some were dusting off the cobwebs after a big winter season. Some incredible times have already been recorded.

We are thrilled to have Knox’s own Paris Olympian, Cameron McEntyre (OKG16), share his expertise on the javelin with our athletes and this will be ongoing for the entire season. Cam spoke to our Year 7s last week about his first experiences at Knox as a 13yr old Athlete and the journey that got him to Paris.

It’s not too late to get involved. Tomorrow, all students are invited to join the Knox Track and Field program at the Sydney Olympic Park Athletics Centre for more athletic fun as we gear up for the CAS Track and Field Championships on September 19 – see you there! For more information, please refer to the Knox app and select Track and Field.

For more on sport this week, please read the Sport Newsletter linked above.

There are many things to be concerned about today. Whether it is socio-political, personal, financial or health issues, there never ceases to be something that causes anxiety. These anxieties are surely exacerbated by 24-hour news cycles, social media interconnection, and other peculiarities of our time; in the same breath, anxiety seems to follow us all regardless of time and place.

But as Christians we can rest on Christ. We are told not to be anxious about anything, but rather to be prayerful. We are told that we can “bring all (our) anxiety and worry to Him”. I am thankful that I don’t have to have everything figured out, I’m so grateful that I don’t have to puzzle through everything myself. It brings the greatest peace to know that whenever we encounter anxieties or problems that may appear insurmountable, we can trust in the mercy and goodness of God. The peace from faith “transcends all understanding”, which is such a wonderful gift to reflect upon.

Text of the Week
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:6-7
