Year 10 Team 2024

This week has been full of energy regarding the Paris 2024 Olympics and Australia’s success thus far in various events. It has been quite timely to welcome a number of exchange students from a diverse range of countries including Ireland, South Africa, Argentina, Japan, Germany, and France. We encourage all the boys to make these students feel welcome and to use the exchange program as an opportunity to learn about other cultures in a positive way.
In Year Meeting, we hosted the inaugural 'Camembert It' Ten Pin Bowling competition to celebrate the Paris Olympics. Congratulations to Ms Haslam’s Mentor Group for winning the competition with eight pins knocked down! Mr Pittman also led a fantastic discussion on going against the grain, being a good man, and helping out your mates. He drew on his experiences in the Air Force, highlighting the importance of being a positive influence for others.

Tomorrow Man - Week 3, Term 3
We are very excited to announce that the Class of 2026 will again be engaging in the Tomorrow Man program in Term 3. This program is a highly engaging, structured and immersive learning journey, training young men how to walk their own path, talk with gravity and engage actively, with purpose, in all areas of their lives.
As part of the Knox Total Fitness model, the need to develop social/emotional literacy skills is paramount. Tomorrow Man is an organisation that aims to improve skills around emotional literacy/muscle together with creating and embracing a healthy and real version of masculinity for males of all ages.
The boys will participate in the program in their Mentor Groups with their Mentor. Module 3 will run for approximately 1.5-2 hours during a school day and will be facilitated by the Tomorrow Man team.
Module 3 – ‘Man and the Mask’: Monday 5 or Tuesday 6 August.
On Thursday next week (8 August) the Junior and Middle Academy will be supporting the Australian Olympians by allowing boys to wear a touch of ‘green and gold’ on top of their usual Winter Uniform. Boys will still need to wear their official school uniform, including school blazer, to and from school but are welcome to bring a scarf/jumper or any other touch of green and gold to wear during the day. We hope the boys can get into the spirit and support the Aussie Olympians!

Chess
Well done on another strong term of Chess in the NSWJCL competition. The Senior A and Junior A team went through without dropping a point which is a super achievement. Special mention to the Junior B team who just missed out on the quarter finals by one point in a tightly contested game against a strong Marist Eastwood A team. This week, all three games will be at home against Central Coast Grammar today (Friday 2 August). Junior and Intermediate games will aim to start at 3.30pm.

Sport Newsletter Week 2, Term 3 2024
I hope everyone is enjoying the opportunity to watch some Olympics this week. There have been so many inspirational performances so far from our Australian athletes and I hope this serves as motivation for all youngsters out there to reach for the clouds and dream big. When you hear some of their personal stories, it really shows that absolutely anything can be achieved with the right attitude and support around the athlete.
William Yang (OKG16) was superb in the pool in the 100m freestyle and reached the semi finals whilst coming up in Week 2, we have a Knox representative on the track with Cameron McEntyre (OKG16) throwing the javelin. Good luck, Cam.

Chaplaincy Team 2024

I love to ask children about prayer, and to hear them say “God answers prayer.” It’s a simple statement, but a profound truth. As we bring our prayers to God, we know that he is attentive and waiting to hear our prayers. Whether in times of joy, or times of challenge, God listens to our prayers with grace and understanding. He is attentive and ready to respond to our needs. .
In prayer, how wonderful it is to be able to listen and talk to our wonderful and glorious God, knowing his words and actions bring life and sustain us in all that we do. We are sometimes called to be patient, or perhaps we feel our prayers and requests aren’t hitting the mark, but we can be assured that God’s power and love are at work in us, every step of the way.

Text of the Week
I kneel in prayer to the Father. All beings in heaven and on earth receive their life from him. God is wonderful and glorious.

Ethics Olympiad
The Ethics Olympiad is a unique event where students collaboratively analyse and discuss real-life ethical issues, defending positions they believe are right. Unlike traditional debates, it emphasises deep, perceptive thinking and ethical awareness. We're proud of Team Knox - the boys were great competitors and earned an honourable mention from the judges.

A warm welcome to our Exchange students from France, Germany, Ireland, Japan, and South Africa.
International Olympiad in Informatics
Juntao Zhou has been selected as a member of Australia’s 2024 International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI) team. The team will represent Australia at the 36th annual IOI competition this year in Egypt at the beginning of September. The competition requires students to use a variety of coding strategies to solve given problems. We congratulate Nathan on this truly impressive selection.
